Fauverney combines a long industrial history with a varied park landscape. Along the Ouche, mills and a later blast furnace recall different ways of working with water, ore and wood. At the same time, the Parc de Chassagne offers paths, ponds and remarkable trees. This gives you a choice when planning your trip: nature or local history—or a stay that focuses on both.

Industrial History and Buildings

A weir on the Ouche near Fauverney has powered mills since at least the 12th century. Another technical focus was added in 1827: a blast furnace built in Fauverney processed ore from Malforêt and used wood from Boulouze. The examples are clearly different: at the mills, the weir provided the power, while the blast furnace relied on ore and wood.

The 11th-century Church of Saint-Georges stands on a hill, surrounded by the cemetery. Another historic building is the covered washhouse, which used rainwater. It dates from 1846 and is located on Rue de la Fontaine. Fauverney thus has different kinds of landmarks side by side: religious architecture and a washhouse whose function is suggested by its name.

Field names also preserve local history. “Pièce du Temple” recalls the former presence of the Knights Templar in Fauverney. Only the field name remains from the former site; the memory survives in the name, not in a preserved building.

Local tradition also includes a small statue of Saint George, passed from family to family each year to keep the custom alive. If you are interested, ask whether the handover is taking place in the year of your visit.

Park, Paths and Activities

The 41-hectare Parc de Chassagne is characterized by dense woodland and a variety of tree species. Notable trees include giant sequoias and bald cypresses. Visitors use the park for its fitness trail and botanical trail, as well as its paths, ponds and woodland. The fitness trail is freely accessible. Some trees along the botanical trail have dried out or disappeared, and some signs have had to be replaced. Check on site which features are currently visible.

A 2011 municipal bulletin describes two loops on the fitness trail: a long loop of 820 metres and a short one of 540 metres. This gives you a longer and a shorter route to choose from. These distances are from 2011; check the current route on site if you want to plan your walk around them.

Parc Renot has a freely accessible multisport city stadium. It offers a different focus from the paths in the Parc de Chassagne: here, there are several sports to enjoy, while the other park is about woodland, trees and paths. Recreational fishing is also available at the ponds in the Domaine de Chassagne. If you want to fish, check the local rules and access arrangements in advance.

Walking Across the Ouche

Another aspect of planning your route is the connection across the Ouche. In 2025, the municipality inaugurated a footpath and a pedestrian bridge; the bridge crosses the river. The project aims to promote sustainable mobility, quality of life and accessibility for all. A footpath incorporated into the project is also intended to make it easier to get from the town centre to the football pitches and the neighbourhood on Rue des Moulins. The bridge and the planned connection should therefore be understood as project goals, not as a promise that a continuous route has been completed.

Plan Your Stay

If you’re looking for hotels in Fauverney, let your interests guide you: the Parc de Chassagne brings together nature and walking trails, while the church, washhouse, mills and blast furnace offer different ways to explore local and industrial history. For a celebration at Château de Chassagne, the municipality provides a hall for private events such as weddings and communions, as well as institutional events. Check the booking terms before planning an event.
