Planning a trip to Bure-les-Templiers can focus on two very different interests: architectural history that developed over several centuries and a short nature walk at the Marais du CĂ´nois. Cultural history also includes the Chapelle Saint-Renobert de Romprey and a seasonal church event. This contrast is useful when choosing a destination: the Commanderie and the chapel represent historical architecture and restoration, while the circular trail offers a clearly defined nature outing.

The architectural history of the Commanderie des Templiers

The Commanderie des Templiers was founded around 1120. Its south wing dates from the 12th and 13th centuries, while the other buildings were constructed in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. This makes it possible to distinguish the buildings by period, rather than assigning the entire Commanderie to a single era. For a culture-focused stay, this sequence provides a helpful thread: the foundation, south wing and other buildings represent different stages in its architectural history.

The chapel, wall paintings and protected status

The Chapelle Saint-Renobert de Romprey was built in 1500 together with the château by Edme Régnier, Lieutenant General of the Bailliage de la Montagne and Lord of Romprey. Its wall paintings were discovered and restored in 1933. By decree of 4 October 1996, the chapel was listed as a Monument historique. The dates relate to different aspects: 1500 to the construction of the chapel and château, 1933 to the restoration of the wall paintings, and 1996 to its protected status. This makes it possible to distinguish the construction history from the later preservation of the monument.

A short walk at the Marais du CĂ´nois

The circular trail at the Marais du CĂ´nois is easy, 2.2 km long and takes 45 minutes. As a loop, it offers a clearly defined distance for a nature outing. Route details and conditions may change, so check them before setting out. From Bure-les-Templiers, reach the car park via the D102 towards Chaugey. After about 2 km, road signs point to the access road to the car park. If road conditions have changed, check the signs on site.

The natural features also give the outing its own focus. The Marais du CĂ´nois is listed in the ZNIEFF inventory, the inventory of natural areas of ecological, faunal and floristic interest. The very rare Marsh Helleborine, which is protected at regional level, grows there. Flowering observations are seasonal. If you are particularly interested in this plant, take the season into account when planning your visit.

Churches and heritage in the Châtillonnais

The volunteer initiative “Un jour, une église” (“One Day, One Church”) presents churches in the Châtillonnais and their surroundings, with particular attention to the movable heritage housed in these buildings. The churches featured include the Église Saint-Julien de Bure-les-Templiers, especially during the summer season. This brings movable heritage into focus alongside the buildings themselves. Programme details and availability depend on the season and dates. Check the schedule if you would like to include the initiative in your travel plans.
