Mouazé brings together local history, church architecture and landscape, with a dedicated activity area at the entrance to the town. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can choose your destination based on whether architectural history, the historical use of the river or outdoor activities will shape your stay. These themes offer different ways to get to know the town.

Bas Bourg and Saint-Melaine Church

Bas Bourg is the very old historic centre of Mouazé. The present-day Saint-Melaine Church was built between 1897 and 1901 to plans by Frédéric Jobbé-Duval, an architect from Rennes. These two landmarks represent different historical timeframes: Bas Bourg stands for an old town centre, while Saint-Melaine represents a building that can be dated precisely to the turn of the 20th century. The town’s history can thus be viewed from both a longer historical perspective and through a clearly defined church building. Anyone wishing to get to know Mouazé through its local history can consider these different periods side by side.

Saint-Melaine is Frédéric Jobbé-Duval’s only religious building in the Ille-et-Vilaine département. This gives the church a particular place in the history of regional architecture. Inside the nave, dark wood panelling meets polychrome decoration. Polychrome means multicoloured: the term refers to the use of colour, while the wood panelling is a separate feature of the interior. The construction period, architect and interior design thus offer different ways of approaching the church.

The Illet and its history

The Illet runs from north to south through the entire area of Mouazé, creating a landscape feature that spans the whole territory. The Moulin de La Piglais is direct evidence of the river’s former use. The river course conveys the area’s spatial dimension; the mill brings the historical connection together at a named building. For travellers who wish to consider landscape and heritage together, this connection raises the question of how the Illet was used in the past.

The Chêne des Plaids adds a medieval meeting place of the local lords to the town’s history. The tree is still standing; check its condition before making a special visit. Its history relates to a social function, distinguishing it from the Moulin de La Piglais and its connection to the use of the river.

Skatepark and cycling area

Mouazé’s skatepark is on the edge of the business park at the entrance to the town, behind the football pitch. A cycling area with bumps has been created around the skatepark. Together, they form a dedicated activity area distinct from the town centre, church architecture and river history. Minors must be accompanied by an adult when using the skatepark. Check the location and current rules before visiting. If you are planning to use the cycling area in detail, also confirm its current condition.
