In Domloup, you can plan days out to suit your preferred distance and interests: a very easy 3.0 km circuit sits alongside longer hiking and cycling routes. There is also historic church art, a protected natural area and cultural activities. When choosing a hotel in Domloup, deciding whether short walks around town or longer outings should shape your stay can help with planning your days.

Routes for short and longer outings

Circuit du Patrimoine No. 3 is a very easy 3.0 km walking circuit. It starts at the car park on Place de la Mairie in the historic town centre. From this central starting point, the route loops through Domloup, making it suitable for anyone who wants to combine a short walk with a glimpse of the historic centre.

A longer option is the “À la source du Blosne” route, with two variants of 14 and 21 km. It passes through the Domloup countryside and reaches the boundaries of Domloup, Noyal-sur-Vilaine, Cesson-Sévigné and Chantepie. The route is open to hikers and to people using a mountain bike or VTC. The two distances offer a clear choice based on how far you want to travel; check local conditions and current signage before setting out.

The 29 km Vélo Promenade® No. 10, “Entre Vilaine et Châteaux,” also passes through Domloup. Its route crosses the valleys of the Rimon, the Yaigne and the Vilaine. This gives you a range of outdoor options: a short walking circuit, longer variants of the “À la source du Blosne” route, or a cycling circuit. Check current route conditions before setting off.

Romanesque details and chapel art

The Église Saint-Loup brings together several distinctive architectural features. Its Romanesque nave is the only one in the Ille-et-Vilaine département with an entrance featuring four arches. The entrance also has loophole windows; the Romanesque portal dates to around the year 1000. Wall paintings in one of the church’s chapels depict Our Lady of Mercy, Saint Margaret and Saint Mary Magdalene.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Rivière is also known as Notre-Dame-des-Marais. It appears to date from the Gothic period, more specifically the 15th century. At the entrance, small columns with capitals mark a style characteristic of the early 15th century. Those interested in architecture will find a different period and style here than at the Romanesque Église Saint-Loup.

Natural areas and cultural activities

The Vallée du Rimon is a protected natural area with ponds. Protected newts and salamanders live there. This natural area adds a distinct landscape perspective to the routes and architectural heritage; the protected animals are part of the area, but sightings are not guaranteed.

The Médiathèque L'Envolée is open to the public and brings together culture, leisure and education. Books, magazines, audio CDs and DVDs can be used on site free of charge; borrowing is also possible. As opening hours may change, it is advisable to check them before visiting.

The programme includes the monthly “Envolées créatives,” which offer instruction in techniques such as flipbooks, stop-motion and paper folding. Participation is free, but booking is required; individual dates and techniques may vary. At “Mercredis jeux,” families and friends play board games together. “Autour du tricot et des arts du Fil” offers opportunities to share ideas and learn about knitting, textile crafts and upcycling. Check current event dates before visiting.
