At Étang de Bain-de-Bretagne, benches, picnic tables, children’s play equipment and sanitary facilities are available for visitors along the banks. In 2013, the banks received the “EcoJardin” label for ecological and sustainable management. The lake therefore combines practical visitor facilities with an ecological approach to landscape maintenance. If the facilities are important for your plans, check the information again before travelling.

Things to do in Bain-de-Bretagne offer a range of experiences: alongside walks and discoveries, there are specific opportunities to spend time by the water, as well as explore architecture and film culture. If you want to plan around a particular focus, you can give nature, architecture or cinema as much emphasis as you like.

The circular route around the pond

The Tour du lac de Bain-de-Bretagne is an easy, 5.3-kilometre loop for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. It starts at the car park by the swimming pool. Check the route details again before setting out, as details may change.

Walks and heritage

Bain-de-Bretagne offers a variety of places for walks and discoveries, where you can explore the town’s heritage from different periods.

The greenway on a historic railway line

The greenway follows a former railway line between Châteaubriant and Ploërmel, which was in use from 1896 to 1986. Today, it offers a safe route for walking and cycling. Along the way, you can discover the local wildlife and plant life, the landscape and the heritage.

Saint-Martin: architectural history and features

The present-day parish church of Saint-Martin was built in 1851 southwest of the town centre, to plans by departmental architect Léoce Couetoux. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, and the vaulted ceiling has a basket-handle arch profile. The main façade is flanked by two towers with bell towers and pointed spires; the polygonal choir termination is Neo-Romanesque. The Latin-cross plan describes the shape of the building, while the basket-handle arch profile describes the ceiling. The two terms therefore refer to different parts of the structure.

In 1876, Arthur Regnault designed a project for a partial reconstruction. It is uncertain whether it was carried out in 1892. The dates therefore refer to different events: 1851 marks the construction of the present-day church, 1876 the design, and 1892 an uncertain date of completion. The features also include stained-glass windows from the second half of the 19th century, created by the Rault workshops and the Atelier du Carmel du Mans.

Market and film culture

The Bain-de-Bretagne market takes place in the town centre, on Place de la République. If you want to plan your visit around the market, check the information again before travelling. Le Scénario is a cinema run exclusively by volunteers as an association and has been operating at 3 rue du Chêne vert since December 2008. The two air-conditioned auditoriums differ considerably in capacity: they seat 213 and 72 people, respectively.
