The Sainte-Nonne Church, the Musée Ti Gwechall and the surrounding landscape show different sides of Dirinon. The traditional Pardon of Saint Divy and the Fun Park Accrobranche de Dirinon are also part of the picture. For planning purposes, the museum’s visiting arrangements and the specific date of the Pardon are important points to consider; architecture, walks and adventure courses each offer a different focus.

Sainte-Nonne Church: architectural history and details

The irregularly laid-out nave, broad transept and three-sided choir give the church its distinctive ground plan. The building dates from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The south porch, dating from 1618, features stone statues of the twelve apostles. The bell tower also has a distinctive, clearly identifiable design: it is of the Léonard type, has two bell stages and two galleries, and bears the dates 1588 and 1593.

For architecture enthusiasts, the ground plan, porch and bell tower offer different ways of looking at the same building: the church’s form, its stone features and its dated structural elements. This lets you focus your visit on specific details rather than viewing the church simply as a single historic landmark.

Pardon of Saint Divy

The traditional Pardon of Saint Divy in Dirinon includes a procession. The cross, banners, Saint Divy and Sainte Nonne, as well as traditional costumes, are presented. At one edition of the Pardon, the programme also included a blessing of the water followed by a mass in the Saint Divy chapel. If you would like to plan your trip around this festival, check the specific date before setting your travel dates.

Musée Ti Gwechall: costumes and interiors

The Musée Ti Gwechall is dedicated to the costumes and traditions of the commune of Dirinon. At the museum, you can see a reconstructed Breton interior with a box bed, a cupboard for dishes and period furniture. An annual temporary exhibition is held in the adjoining barn; its themes may vary.

The Musée Ti Gwechall is open only in summer. Visits outside the season are possible by prior reservation. Check the seasonal visiting arrangements before your trip. If the museum is a focus of your stay, its summer opening or a pre-arranged visit outside the season may be a deciding factor when choosing your travel dates.

Walks and forest courses

The landscape around Dirinon is shaped by the Élorn River, the Rade de Brest and the Étang du Roual, as well as numerous forests, meadows and valleys. The varied surroundings are well suited to walks in nature. The river, bay, pond and wooded or open landscapes are distinct features that can each guide the nature-focused part of a stay.

For a more active outing, the Fun Park Accrobranche de Dirinon in the Coat-Mez forest offers 15 courses across five hectares, among oaks, maritime pines and beeches. There are also 50 ziplines; the longest is 150 metres. The figures and tree species give a concrete impression of the scale and setting of the activity, without equating it with a walk through the landscape.

Further traces of the past and getting there

Rectangular fortified enclosures known as “camp romain” are located in the park of Créac’h ar Roual. Two Iron Age steles, behind Dirinon town hall and in Kervern Mindu, attest to burial practices from the Iron Age, around 700 BC. These sites and finds provide further historical points of interest alongside the architectural history of Sainte-Nonne.

Dirinon railway station is served by TER trains connecting Quimper with Landerneau and Brest. Check the timetable before travelling by train. When choosing your travel dates, the museum season and reservation option, the date of the Pardon or a suitable train connection may be decisive.
