Pink granite defines more than just individual stretches of coastline: the formations are spread across the entire municipality of Trégastel and are especially concentrated by the sea. Visitors choosing the town for a stay will encounter this landscape in different settings—a protected natural area, the beach and a coastal circular trail. There are also prehistoric monuments and historic religious buildings, which add a second, cultural and historical perspective to the granite.

Pink Granite on the Coast and Beach

The Presqu’île Renote is a protected natural area with numerous pink granite formations. Its coastal landscape is also home to the region’s characteristic animal and plant species. At Plage du Coz-Pors, the granite formations meet another distinctive feature: at low tide, nearby islets can be reached from there. Access therefore depends on the tides; if you plan to visit, check the best time to go.

One specific way to explore the peninsula on foot is the Tour de la Presqu’île Renote circular trail. It is 2.1 kilometres long and marked with the GR34; the circuit takes approximately 45 minutes. Allow about 45 minutes for the circuit. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Nature Experiences with Different Highlights

Guided tours are offered in the Vallée des Traouïéro from June to September. For this seasonal programme, it is advisable to check the current calendar before travelling. The Aquarium Marin de Trégastel offers a different experience: it is located in caves of pink rock, which visitors explore through a maze of natural granite blocks.

The aquarium offers nature excursions throughout the year; individual dates may vary. At low tide, it also offers trips to the beach to discover marine life and learn about the tides. Check in advance whether your preferred dates are available. With a guided tour of the valley, a visit to the rock caves and a tide-dependent beach programme, there are several different ways to experience nature, each offering something distinct.

The Archipelago of the 7 Îles is another seasonal option: boats depart from Coz-Pors in July and August. The archipelago has been protected since 1912 and designated a nature reserve since 1976. When the tide is suitable, it is possible to land on Île aux Moines. As boat trips and landings are seasonal or tide-dependent, check current dates and operators in advance.

From Neolithic Monuments to Religious Buildings

Several archaeological sites show how long the area has been inhabited and shaped by people. The Allée couverte de Kerguntuil is a burial site from the late Neolithic, approximately nine metres long; it was excavated and restored in 1939. The Dolmen de Kerguntuil is considered one of the largest dolmens in the Trégor. Its capstone is six metres long and 3.25 metres wide, and weighs approximately 20 tonnes. These measurements give a sense of the stone’s scale, while the term dolmen identifies the monument as prehistoric.

The Menhir de Trémarche is located in the Park-ar-Peulven district. The Neolithic menhir was designated a historic monument on 11 October 1960. The Chapelle Sainte-Anne-des-Rochers tells a more recent story of construction: it dates from the 17th century and was altered and extended between 1928 and 1933. The Chapelle Saint-Golgon was built in the 16th century near a sacred spring and extended in the early 18th century. The church of Le Bourg dates back to the 12th–13th centuries; an ossuary was added in the 17th century. Together, these buildings span a period from medieval origins to later alterations.

Seawater and Beach Activities

The Forum de Trégastel, a seawater complex with massage jets, a counter-current channel, saunas, hammams, a jacuzzi, a tepidarium and a cardio fitness area, is located on Coz-Pors beach. Check the latest opening and booking information before visiting. At La Grève Blanche beach, the Maison de la mer offers equipment hire and lessons in sailing, kayaking and windsurfing for all levels, from the age of five. Activities may change seasonally; check the latest information in advance.
