Treffrin can be explored through its historical landmarks and a clearly defined walking route. The church of Notre-Dame Saint-Louis, Kergonan, and a roadside cross offer different points of cultural and historical interest; the Hent-Glas circular trail adds a specific walking option. When planning your stay, the walk has a set time frame, while the monuments are distinguished primarily by their locations and historical context. This lets you decide whether cultural history, walking, or a combination of both will shape your stay.

Heritage sites in different locations

The Calvary cross at the church of Notre-Dame Saint-Louis has been protected as a historic monument since 1926. This status is recorded in the regional heritage inventory and by the Ministry of Culture. In the south porch of the same church, statues of the Apostles stand against the east and west walls. They date from 1582 and are made of carved, painted, polychrome wood. Polychrome means finished in several colors; together with the carving and painting, this describes how the statues are decorated. The cross and the group of Apostles are two distinct cultural points of interest at the same church: a protected Calvary cross and carved wooden figures on specifically identified walls.

The Pont gaulois dite de Sainte-Catherine is located in Kergonan, in Treffrin, and also extends into the commune of Plounévézel. The bridge has been protected as a historic monument since June 22, 1964. Its principal periods date to the 3rd and 7th centuries. This historical context differs from that of the Apostles’ statues, for which a specific year of creation is given. A wayside cross stands at the crossroads of the Carhaix–Trébrivan and Treffrin–Le Moustoir roads. It is probably a fragment of a 16th-century cross. Its identification as a fragment is explicitly considered probable.

The Hent-Glas circular trail

The Hent-Glas circular trail in Treffrin is 14 kilometers long, rated as a very easy walking route, and listed as taking four hours. Its length and time frame help you plan the route as a standalone activity; the “very easy” rating also indicates its stated difficulty. If you include the trail in your travel plans, you can set aside a dedicated block of time for it.

The trail starts at the cemetery car park in Treffrin. Along the route, a sunken lane descends to the D 20A. A sunken lane is a recessed path; here, the descent to the named road is also part of the route description. The starting point and this section of the route provide two specific landmarks for the walk.

Plan your stay around your interests

The walk and the heritage sites appeal to different interests and call for different kinds of planning: for the Hent-Glas circular trail, you can use the stated duration as a guide; for the cultural sites, their locations, materials, and historical context provide the thematic framework. If you want to combine both during your stay, you can first decide whether to devote more time to the walk or focus on the cultural and historical sites. This lets you tailor your plans to your available time and interests.
