Saint-Nicodème offers several starting points for planning your trip: the moorland around Crec'h an Bars, the Gorges du Corong, the parish church complex, and cycling and horse-riding activities. When choosing a holiday rental, it helps to decide first whether landscape, architectural history or a specific activity will be the main focus of your stay.

Landscape between Moorland and Rock

At Crec'h an Bars, the land forms a hollow covering just over 100 hectares. A distinctive vegetation of peat bogs and wet heathland has developed there. The peat bogs of Crec'h an Bars in Saint-Nicodème are included in the Natura 2000 site “Têtes de bassins versants du Blavet et de l’Hyères.” The area measurement refers to the hollow, while the Natura 2000 designation applies to the peat bog heaths. The landform, vegetation and inclusion in the protected area are therefore three distinct aspects of this natural environment.

In the Gorges du Corong, the Follézou stream flows beneath the boulders of this rocky landscape. Mosses and ferns cover the shaded sides of the boulders. From the car park, you can take the Minez Guellec circular walking trail, which leads to the Gorges du Corong. Car park and trail conditions may change; check them before your visit. At Crec'h an Bars, the hollow and wet moorland heaths define the landscape; in the Gorges, the focus is on boulders, the stream and the shaded vegetation. That is the key difference when choosing between the two natural landscapes.

Parish Church Complex and Architectural History

The parish church of Saint-Nicodème is listed as a historic monument and has the French protected status “inscrit MH.” The listed complex includes an enclosed churchyard, a cemetery and a calvary. The church site therefore comprises more than just the building. Its architectural history also has a clear chronology: the ground plan dates from the 16th century, while the transept and nave date from the first half of the 17th century. The nave is the main lengthwise section, while the transept is the section arranged across it. This makes it possible to distinguish the earlier ground plan from the later phase of construction.

Cycling Loop and Horse-Riding Activities

The cycling guide published by the département in 2021 lists the “Boucle de St-Nicodème” cycling loop, starting in Saint-Nicodème. Natural Ranch Horse is an equestrian centre in Convenant Tannou; its offerings include riding lessons and other services. The ranch in Convenant Tannou offers a range of activities for all ages, where you can get to know horses and their surroundings. Please check directly with the operator before visiting to confirm which lessons and activities are available.

The routes differ in another way: the Boucle de St-Nicodème starts in the village and is a cycling route; Minez Guellec is a circular walking trail leading to the Gorges du Corong. This lets you distinguish between a named cycling loop and a walking trail with a specific landscape destination.
