Saint-Launeuc can be explored through three distinct questions: Which route fits into the day, which buildings tell stories of different periods, and when do water-based activities become part of your travel plans? The Circuit de la Forge provides a specific route; the Chapelle and Château offer two separate architectural themes. At the Étang de la Hardouinais, an artificial reservoir, an industrial past and seasonal summer activities come together. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the route, the architecture and the seasonal activities on the water: they offer points of reference for exercise, building history and when to travel.

The Circuit de la Forge

The Circuit de la Forge is an easy 4.2-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at the Église Sainte-Éléonore de Saint-Launeuc. The church is therefore a clear landmark for the beginning and end of the route. The distance and difficulty rating will help you fit the walk in with the rest of your day's plans; check the local signs before setting out.

Chapel and Château: two architectural themes

The Chapelle de La Bruyère is a wood-panelled 17th-century chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours. Its façades and roofs were listed as historic monuments by decree dated 23 December 1969. The chapel therefore brings together two distinct historical details: its construction period and the later protection date, which specifically applies to its façades and roofs. If you are interested in religious architecture or heritage conservation, you can consider these aspects separately.

The Château de La Bruyère is an 18th-century building whose appearance resembles that of a Malouinière. This comparison complements the different details about the Chapelle: here, the focus is on the similarity of the exterior design, while there it is on the wood panelling, dedication and protected parts of the building.

The Étang and its industrial history

The Étang de la Hardouinais is an artificial reservoir covering about 50 hectares. Its original purpose explains its connection with the La Hardouinais blast furnace: the Étang was created to supply water to a small pond downstream on the Meu. This pond was intended to provide the driving force needed to operate the blast furnace's bellows. In this way, the story leads from the reservoir to the pond and then to the use of water power at the blast furnace. The approximate area gives an idea of the Étang's size; its historical function explains its original purpose.

Water-based activities take place at the Étang in summer. This gives you two different points of reference for planning: its historical function explains how the reservoir came about, while the water-based activities are seasonal. If these activities influence when you travel, check in advance what will be available during your planned stay.

Restaurant and vegetable garden

In Saint-Launeuc, Auberge Ar Duen offers a bistronomic restaurant. Check that it is open before visiting. The Auberge also has a five-hectare vegetable garden. If you would like to include it in your plans, please ask in advance whether guests can access it.
