Church ruins, a preserved stair tower and a 15th-century heraldic stone give Saint-André-Des-Eaux a tangible cultural and historical focus. The landscape and attractions of Bétineuc add nature and outdoor activities to the picture. When planning your trip, you can decide whether architectural history, a scenic loop or water sports best suits your travel plans.

Historical traces in Saint-André-Des-Eaux

The ruins of the former church of Saint-André-Des-Eaux were listed as a historic monument by decree on 13 September 1990. At the Château du Besso, the large stair tower of the manor house and several sections of wall remain today. A heraldic stone from the 15th century has also been preserved at the former Besso mill, despite extensive alterations: an angel is shown presenting the coat of arms of the Beaumanoir family. The two dates refer to different things: the 15th century dates the heraldic stone; the church ruins were listed as a historic monument in 1990.

Another trace of art history concerns the former parish church of Saint-André-Des-Eaux. It had a large Romanesque Crucifixion scene, attributed to the late 12th century. The remains of the building survive; the artwork itself is lost. Those interested in architectural history will therefore find both existing architectural details and a lost work whose period of creation has been established.

Walking loop and water landscape of Bétineuc

The “Par l'étang de Bétineuc” circular route passes through hilly, green landscapes shaped by agriculture. At the same time, it runs through a water landscape defined by the Rance, the Linon, the Canal d'Ille-et-Rance and the Étang de Bétineuc. The details complement one another: alongside the agriculturally shaped landscape, several different bodies of water feature on this same named route. The Étang de Bétineuc covers 20 hectares, giving this part of the landscape a specific scale.

Water sports, outdoor activities and cycling route

The Bétineuc water sports centre offers introductory sessions in sailing, canoeing and kayaking. The leisure complex also has a 1.9-kilometre fitness trail with six or fourteen stations. The activities offer different options: you can try one of the water sports listed or consider the trail as a fitness option.

For cycling enthusiasts, the Véloroute voie verte No. 3 (Saint-Malo-Rhuys) is another point of interest. It was built along the former railway line that served, among other places, Saint-André-Des-Eaux. The route thus links a specific connection to the town with the railway line’s former use. If you’re planning a trip that combines cycling with regional transport history, this offers another option alongside the walking loop and activities in Bétineuc.

If you’re looking for a holiday rental, your reason for travelling may help you decide: would you mainly like to explore architectural history, or plan for landscapes and activities?
