Ruca: Cultural Heritage and Cycling
Ruca offers two ways to plan your trip: architectural history and cycling. Specific cultural attractions include the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Hirel, the door of the Église Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul and the private Manoir du Bois Rouault. There is also the “Des Racines & des Voix” exhibition, while the Boucle Matignon - Saint-Pôtan - Ruca is a named circular cycling route. These different themes give you starting points for deciding what to focus on during your stay.
Buildings and heritage listings
The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Hirel is at the eastern entrance to Ruca. It is a 200 m walk from the town hall to the chapel. The rectangular building dates from the 16th century; its original layout was never completed. The chapel is listed as a Monument historique, with the listing dated 21 May 1953. Before visiting, check whether access arrangements have changed temporarily.
For the Église Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul, the Monument historique listing applies to the door on the north façade. This feature was listed on 5 February 1927. Comparing this with the chapel’s listing date highlights two distinct heritage listings: the dates are 26 years apart and concern different buildings or architectural features.
The Manoir du Bois Rouault adds a private Renaissance manor house to these architectural forms. An official tourism brochure from 2013–2014 describes it as visible from the road. Its architectural features include a square tower with corbels and loopholes. The manor can thus be identified by its Renaissance classification, the shape of its tower and these named details; the information about its visibility and private status comes from the description at the time.
Exhibition with set dates
The “Des Racines & des Voix” exhibition is scheduled in Ruca from 15 September to 16 October 2026. It was held for the second consecutive year in 2026. The edition combines 15 photographic portraits with 15 audio contributions, presenting the two formats side by side. The reason to visit is tied to the 2026 edition; it is not described as a permanent offering. Check the events calendar before travelling so your plans match the stated dates.
About the cycling loop
The Boucle Matignon - Saint-PĂ´tan - Ruca is signposted as cycling loop No. 22. The technical route details, updated on 23 December 2024, specify a distance of 17 km, a very easy difficulty rating and a stated duration of two hours. The route is also described as a family-friendly discovery tour for cyclists. The distance and duration give you specific figures for planning your day; these are the published route details. Check the signage before setting off.
When looking for a hotel in Ruca, you can first decide what matters most for your stay: are you interested in the buildings, the exhibition with its set dates or the cycling loop? The exhibition is available during a specific period, while the route is described with a stated distance and duration.
