Pommeret can be explored through two distinct interests: outdoor activity on trails and sacred art alongside architectural history. A 27 km network of trails is reserved for hikers and mountain bikers; churches, chapels and the Manoir du Frêche-Clos add a cultural and historical dimension. When looking for a hotel in Pommeret, these highlights can help you organise your trip—for example, by deciding whether outdoor activities or architectural and religious history should take centre stage.

Walking Trails and Landscape

Pommeret’s trail network covers 27 km and is reserved for hikers and mountain bikers. Three circular routes form a cloverleaf; they pass along shaded paths and through forests, as well as beside rivers. The total length of the network and the circular routes provide different reference points for planning.

The route “Pommeret - Quand chapelle et manoirs nous content l'histoire...” is rated easy for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. It starts at 1 Rue du Clos de la Forge, 22120 Pommeret. Unlike the general description of the trail network, this route also mentions horseback riding and is rated easy. Check local conditions before setting out.

A different natural attraction nearby is the Anse de la baie d'Yffiniac, less than five kilometres from Pommeret. It serves as a stopover for migratory birds. Anyone interested in bird migration will find a different natural theme here from the landscapes of shaded stretches, forests and rivers along the trails.

Churches, Chapels and Architectural History

The Église Saint-Pierre is Pommeret’s parish church. It was built in 1894 on the site of the former parish church. The Manoir du Frêche-Clos, dating from the 17th century, adjoins the church. It therefore predates the church, which was built in 1894. The main altar of the Église Saint-Pierre has an altarpiece dating from the 18th century.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Rivière also brings together several periods. The chapel was built on the site of an older chapel dating from the 14th century. In the 17th century, it was founded by the lords of the neighbouring Château de Cargouët. The 14th-century date therefore refers to the older chapel on the site; the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Rivière itself was founded in the 17th century.

The main altar’s altarpiece in the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Rivière includes a central painting of the Assumption of Mary, along with statues of Saint Charles Borromeo and the Virgin and Child, known as Notre-Dame de la Rivière. The chapel also houses a remarkable polychrome wooden statue of Saint Peter. Visitors interested in sacred art will find both a multi-part altarpiece and a wooden sculpture with its own distinctive subject.

A pardon is celebrated in the chapel every year on 15 August. If you are travelling for the occasion, check the exact programme in advance.

Cider as a Historical Tradition

Beyond its architectural and religious history, cider-making is also part of Pommeret’s history. It was also known as “pilerie” and contributed to the town’s reputation until the 1950s. This former local industry adds another historical perspective on Pommeret alongside walking, church art and architecture.
