Pluduno brings together two themes for planning a trip: historic heritage, including châteaux and chapels, and Étang du Guébriand in a protected natural landscape. Its historic traces range from an estate dating from the 13th century to the rebuilding of a chapel in 1833. At the pond, the focus is on fishing, paths around the water and the facilities there. You can therefore shape your stay around your interests: focusing on architecture and history or on the water.

Heritage with traces of different periods

Château de Monchoix is a protected historic monument and a place of remembrance associated with François-René de Châteaubriand. The room associated with the writer has been preserved in the château. Its protected status, its role as a place of remembrance and the room provide different points of reference for understanding the château’s cultural significance.

The Chapelle Saint-Roch in Pluduno was rebuilt at its original site in 1833. Its connection to the Tro-Breizh pilgrimage is considered probable. Its architectural history thus points to a specific year, while the pilgrimage connection remains a probable interpretation. Those interested in religious buildings can also visit the Chapelle Sainte-Anne in La Ville-Varet. Dating from the 18th century, it contains statues of the Virgin Mary, Saint Anne and Saint Joachim.

The estate of Le Plessix-Méen shows a different sequence of historical periods: it was built in the 13th century on a rocky outcrop in a hollow in the valley. After a fire in the 16th century, Guy Langlois de Prémorvan and his wife Julienne Poulain rebuilt it in the 17th century.

Étang du Guébriand: fishing and paths by the water

Étang du Guébriand covers 11 hectares and has facilities for anglers and their families in a protected natural landscape. These include fishing spots, a jetty, shelters, toilets and barbecue areas. As visitor facilities can change over time, it is advisable to check their current status before your trip.

Marked paths run around the entire pond, making it accessible on foot. This offers a different way to experience the place than spending time at the fishing spots: you can make the walk around the water the focus of your visit or explore the facilities along the shore. Both are part of the Étang, without implying any particular length of stay.

The flour mill Moulin à farine du Guébriand is part of the pond’s built environment. It lies below and downstream of the Étang, is attached to the dam and is built of granite rubble stone. The pond, dam and mill can therefore be viewed as interconnected built features, with the mill forming a distinct part of this ensemble.

Which focus suits your stay?

If you are mainly interested in architectural and memorial history, Château de Monchoix, the two chapels and Le Plessix-Méen offer different points of interest: a place of remembrance, religious buildings with their architectural details, and an estate with several historic building phases. The 11-hectare expanse, fishing spots and paths around the Étang make it a good choice for focusing on the water. This lets you decide which of these themes will shape your stay in Pluduno.
