Discover Plouzélambre through its religious heritage, recurring cultural events and a waymarked circular route. Historic highlights include the Fontaine Saint-Sylvestre and the Eglise Saint-Sylvestre et son enclos paroissial complex. There is also the Chapelle Saint-Mélar, an annual summer programme and a circular walking route. These offer different ways to plan your trip: architectural history, religious tradition, an events calendar and outdoor activities.

Religious heritage spanning several periods

The architectural complex of the Eglise Saint-Sylvestre et son enclos paroissial comprises the church, the Fontaine Saint-Sylvestre, the oratory, a calvary and an ossuary. All five elements are classified as historic monuments. The fountain has been classified as a historic monument since 1930. It is thought to date from the second half of the 16th century and was built by the lords of Kerbavé.

The fountain’s history also reaches back to a much earlier period: in the Middle Ages, pilgrims came to Plouzélambre hoping its water would cure leprosy and other skin diseases. Its probable construction in the 16th century and the medieval pilgrim tradition belong to different periods. The fountain thus combines an architectural history with an earlier religious significance.

The Saint-Sylvestre Oratory was classified as a historic monument by decree on 24 November 1930 and served as a stop during processions. Its history therefore includes both formal monument status and a specific role in religious ceremonies.

The Chapelle Saint-Mélar adds two further dates to this architectural history: it was built in 1623 and contains a polychrome high altar dating from 1773. There are 150 years between the construction of the chapel and the altar. The building and its furnishings can therefore be viewed as belonging to different historical periods, rather than being grouped into a single construction phase.

Cultural events throughout the year

Plouzélambre is one of fifteen Trégor communes that jointly organise the Circuit des Chapelles. Every year, the programme offers the chance to discover around twenty chapels or churches over the course of one summer month. If this event is a focus of your trip, check the dates for the next edition before planning.

Another recurring event is the Pardon de Saint-Mélar, held at the end of August. This date offers a separate point of reference in the annual calendar alongside the month-long summer programme. The two events provide different ways to plan the timing of a stay focused on religious heritage.

Circular walk and picnic spot

The De Saint Sylvestre aux hauteurs de Saint Mélard circular walking route starts in Plouzélambre. The waymarked route is graded easy and is 5.7 kilometres long. Check the route details before setting out, as specifications may change.

For a lunch break or snack, there is a playground and two picnic tables behind the Café Sylvestre in Plouzélambre in 2026. Check the condition of the facilities when you arrive.
