Ploufragan combines trails through greenery and along the water with prehistoric monuments and a range of urban cultural offerings. Highlights include the centrally located Vallée du Goëlo, the Gouët Reservoir and the megalithic passage tombs; Espace Victor Hugo adds a cultural focus.

Trails and landscapes

The Vallée du Goëlo is a 20-hectare green space in the centre of Ploufragan. A five-kilometre footpath runs through the area. There are 20 kilometres of walking trails around the Saint-Barthélémy dam, as well as a mountain-biking trail. The options differ considerably for planning purposes: a single footpath in the central green space, a more extensive network of walking trails and a cycling option. Check current trail conditions in advance if you plan to use the mountain-biking trail.

A footpath runs around the Gouët Reservoir near Pont-Noir. The lake covers 70 hectares and is shaped by the Saint-Barthélémy dam. The area is protected up to 300 metres around the shores and is well suited to discovering local flora and fauna. Nature lovers can therefore consider not only the trail but also the protected surroundings as part of their stay. The figure of 70 hectares refers to the surface area of the reservoir, while the distance of up to 300 metres refers to the protected area around the shores. The size of the water body and the extent of the protection thus describe two different spatial scales.

Megaliths and culture

The menhir “Le Sabot” is a Neolithic standing stone at the Zoopole roundabout in Ploufragan and is listed as a historic monument. The covered megalithic passage tombs of Ploufragan date from approximately 3000 to 2000 BC. Three tombs lie along a shared axis and are 400 to 500 metres apart. Here, a shared axis means that the three structures are arranged in a line; together with the distances, this describes the group’s spatial arrangement.

Espace Victor Hugo houses a media library, a cultural centre, a music school, an exhibition gallery and an event hall. The municipal cultural centre offers professional performances, exhibitions, conferences and debates. These formats range from stage performances to discussion events; the programme may change. If you would like to include a specific event in your trip, check the details in advance.

Getting around and planning your trip

For local transport, Ploufragan is served by the TUB urban bus network; Saint-Brieuc Agglomération manages transport across the urban area. Bicycle hire is also mentioned as an option. Before your trip, check the latest information about the network and bicycle hire so your plans reflect the services currently available.
