The Lié drains Ploeuc-Sur-Lié, which lies on the edge of the vast Forêt de Lorge. These two landscape features are complemented here by traces of the area’s milling history, a surviving chapel, and opportunities to learn about potato farming and mountain biking. When planning your stay, you can therefore choose between cultural history, a visit to Patat'As and sporting routes as different focuses.
Mills, Water and Local History
The Moulin Neuf was built by M. Gorin around the time of the French Revolution. Under the management of M. Raulic, it ceased operating in 1981. A waterwheel remains, which once powered two pairs of millstones for grinding wheat and oats. Its construction date, closure and former use together offer a glimpse into the history of milling.
The Moulin Gougeon was built around 1700 and ceased operating in 1953. Remains of the waterwheel shaft housing are preserved there; the hydraulic network and control structures have been fully restored. The two mills offer different points of interest: the Moulin Neuf highlights the former grinding of grain, while the surviving parts of the waterwheel machinery and the restored water system define the Moulin Gougeon.
The Chapelle Saint-Just is the last surviving chapel among the many that once stood in Ploeuc-Sur-Lié. The pardon at the chapel was held on the last Sunday in August until the 1970s. La Corbière is also one of the area’s historic visitor destinations. The Moulin de la Corbière lies just below and downstream of the Étang de la Corbière—a clear geographical relationship that connects this part of the milling history with the waterway.
Mountain Biking: Distinguishing the Route from the Terrain
The Circuit VTT n°29 follows paths through the villages of Ploeuc-Sur-Lié and L'Hermitage-Lorge. It starts at the Espace Henri-Bozec, also known as Côte des Halles. In 2019, the Espace was awarded VTT stadium status. It has numerous mountain bike courses, including the Breizh London, which incorporates part of the mountain bike course from the Olympic Games in London. The site also has trial and downhill areas adapted to different skill levels.
This describes two different forms of mountain biking: the Circuit, which follows a route through the villages, and a site with several courses as well as trial and downhill areas.
Patat'As and Potato Farming
Patat'As focuses on potato farming and rural techniques. The visits cover the local history of potato farming, old potato varieties, historic agricultural machinery, traditional skills and themed exhibitions. A collection of 220 potato varieties complements these topics. During visits, dedicated volunteers accompany guests, sharing anecdotes, memories and explanations. The experience thus combines subject-specific information with personal stories during the visit.
