Les Champs-Géraux combines walking trails in the Vallée du Brice with a diverse architectural heritage. At the La Gravelle manor house, details range from a dovecote dating from 1604 to a residence built in 1637. When planning, the different trail lengths and durations are also useful: you can combine the landscape and local history within a timeframe that suits you.

Walking in the Vallée du Brice

There are two walking trails in the Vallée du Brice: the 11-kilometre route is listed as taking three hours, and the 3-kilometre route as taking 1 hour 30 minutes. According to the stated times, the shorter option takes half as long as the longer one. Walks through the valley pass two ponds, older houses and historic features such as the dovecote at the La Gravelle manor house. The landscape is peaceful and restorative, bringing nature and architectural details together in the same walking experience. Check the route details again before setting out.

La Gravelle and the Notre-Dame Chapel

The La Gravelle manor house was rebuilt in the 17th century on an older site and subsequently became the parish’s principal lordly residence. The estate includes an octagonal dovecote dating from 1604, outbuildings from 1624 and a residence from 1637. These dates therefore refer to specific buildings on the estate, not to a single construction date.

In the town centre, Notre-Dame Chapel was built mainly in the first quarter of the 18th century; work was carried out on it in 1704, 1818 and 1821. The restored chapel is now the parish church. It was restored in 1955. Les Champs-Géraux thus offers both a long architectural history and a church that continues to serve as the parish church.

The History of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours

Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel also has several construction phases: it was built in 1821, destroyed by fire in 1891 and completely rebuilt in the last quarter of the 19th century. Until the 1970s, an annual pardon was held there on the Sunday closest to 8 May. The church also preserves a naïvely styled depiction of the Virgin and Child, which may date from the late 16th century. Its architectural history, religious tradition and artwork each give this stop its own connection to the past.

Horse Riding, Nature Activities and Local Shopping

Aux P’tits Bottés offers horse riding in the countryside, from baby-pony rides to advanced level. It also offers fun activities centred on nature and the seasons. Farm animals and a vegetable garden provide the basis for educational activities about animal care, animal-assisted learning, biology and agronomy. If you plan to take part in an activity, check visiting and booking arrangements in advance.

Ferme de la Moinerie sells meat at retail and wholesale, as well as charcuterie through local direct sales. If you intend to shop there, check retail availability before your visit.
