Lanrodec offers natural and cultural attractions that can be given different priorities when planning a trip. The hiking area is particularly extensive; the area’s cultural history ranges from a medieval motte-and-bailey castle to buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Forest and hiking trails
The Forêt départementale d’Avaugour-Bois-Meur covers just under 1,100 hectares. Its landscape includes forest, high forest, coppice and heathland. The forest lies within the municipalities of Saint-Péver, Lanrodec, Saint-Fiacre and Boquého. Lanrodec is therefore one of the four municipalities that this forest area spans.
The trail network comprises 40 kilometres of hiking trails in the form of eight signposted circular routes. This overview provides a concrete starting point for planning; check trail conditions and signage locally before settling on a route.
The area also has a notable botanical feature: protected carnivorous sundew species grow in the Bois-Meur.
Chapel, cross and motte-and-bailey castle
The historical landmarks span different periods and forms. The Chapel of Saint-Méen and Sainte-Anne de Seven in Senven-Lanrodec dates from the 16th century. The heraldic cross at Grand Perrien stands in the cemetery and dates from the 17th century. The Motte castrale de Grand-Perrien is a medieval motte-and-bailey castle with ditches. The timeline thus extends from the medieval structure to a chapel and cross from later centuries.
Art, projects and bread
The municipal art gallery is open year-round and presents a new exhibition every month. Since the exhibition programme and visiting arrangements may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before your visit. The gallery can thus be considered a cultural attraction in its own right, alongside the municipality’s historical sites.
Another current attraction is Coat&Co – Le Village des Transitions at the Coat An Doc’h site in Lanrodec. Since 1 April 2024, the site has been welcoming new professionals as part of the project. Specific projects include ecological construction and a beekeeping school. The project may evolve; if you are planning a visit, check in advance which activities are currently open to visitors.
The Hier & Deux mains bakery makes bread using local organic flour and natural sourdough starter. The dough is kneaded by hand and the bread is baked in a wood-fired oven. If you want to include this business in your plans, confirm in advance that the bakery and its offerings are still available.
Planning your journey and stay
Lanrodec is located on the RN12 between Guingamp and Saint-Brieuc, roughly halfway between them. This gives you a general idea of how to get there; actual journey times may vary. So check your route and traffic conditions before you set off.
When planning your visit, you can choose what to focus on depending on whether you are most interested in the trail network, natural features or cultural attractions. For walks, trail conditions and signage should guide your plans; for the gallery and project site, check the latest information on access and what is on offer.
