Lancieux’s coastline brings together the protected dunes at Plage des Briantais, Plage de Saint-Sieu facing the Ébihens archipelago, and Plage de l’Islet with its long jetty. There are also coastal paths, protected natural areas and buildings whose history dates back to the 16th century. This gives you a choice of different focuses for your plans: beaches, nature and culture.

Coast: beaches, season and access

Plage de Saint-Sieu stretches for almost a kilometre. Lifeguards are on duty there in July and August; before your trip, check whether seasonal lifeguard coverage is planned for your dates. You can rent windsurfing boards and catamarans at this beach. Availability may vary by season.

There is a free car park at the end of Rue des Bénédictins for access to Plage des Briantais. From there, a sandy path of about 250 metres leads to the beach. BreizhGo routes 214 and 212 stop at the Moulin stop; from there, it is about 1.5 kilometres on foot to the beach. The two access options therefore differ mainly in the walking distance: about 250 metres from the car park or around 1.5 kilometres from the stop. Check the timetable and current access information before travelling.

Coastal paths and natural areas

The GR 34 runs along Lancieux’s west coast. The “Autour de Lancieux” route follows the coast along Plage de Saint-Sieu, crosses Plage des Briantais and goes around Tertre Corlieu. It leaves the GR 34 and follows Chemin des Polders; it also leads to the left bank of the Frémur and to the natural areas of Tertre Corlieu and the Polders. This lets you distinguish a route along the west coast from one that also takes in the Polders and other named natural areas. Coastal access may be affected by the tides; take this into account when planning your visit.

Tertre Corlieu covers 16.3 hectares and has been protected as a biotope since the prefectural decree of 6 March 1995. The ZNIEFF site “Le Tertre Corlieu – Dune et marais des Briantais” covers 39 hectares and is designated for its botanical diversity, rare calcicolous plants and zoological significance. The Dune de la Briantais and Tertre Corlieu are also protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral; a variety of natural habitats there are home to numerous species.

Building history and dates

The Moulin de Buglais was built in the 16th century by Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Jacut de la Mer. The municipality of Lancieux acquired the mill in 1972; it was restored under the supervision of the French heritage authority Bâtiments de France. Every year on 15 August, the Fête du Moulin is held there, with music and a country-style feast. If you would like to plan your visit around the festival, check that year’s programme in advance.

The Vieux Clocher is the surviving tower of the former parish church of Saint-Cieux. The oldest parts of the building probably date from the 15th century, while the tower bears the date 1740. The new parish church of Saint-Cieux was built between 1900 and 1902. Its architecture combines Neo-Romanesque elements with Breton and national Neo-Gothic styles. Another protected ensemble is the Croix Cohiniac, together with the surrounding trees and its immediate setting; it has been listed as a protected site since 22 May 1943.

Water sports and golf

The Club Nautique de Lancieux is a school offering kitesurfing, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, land sailing, kayaking and dinghy sailing. Check the operator’s current information before booking. Another activity is offered by GAEA Golf de Lancieux, which has two coastal golf courses and a practice centre. Golf lessons and introductory sessions are offered year-round; availability may change. Check current offers before booking. The activities described range from water sports at the beach to golf lessons and introductory sessions, so you do not have to fit them all into the same stay.
