Bulat-Pestivien combines historic buildings and springs with a landscape of winding roads and granite boulders. Two routes of different lengths and for different audiences are also available to help you plan your visit. You can first decide whether to focus on cultural history or a longer route, and then plan your accommodation.

Churches, a sanctuary and historic springs

The Notre-Dame Church in Bulat-Pestivien was built around 1463. The Notre-Dame sanctuary was one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Brittany; the church also has a 66-metre-high spire, the tallest in the Côtes-d’Armor department. Its construction date, pilgrimage history and spire offer different starting points for a cultural and historical visit.

The Chapelle Saint-Blaise also has a long history of construction: it was the former parish church of Pestivien, dates back to 1525 and was rebuilt in 1775. The information therefore distinguishes between its origins and its later reconstruction. Two springs complement the religious sites: the Fontaine du Coq is a devotional spring and is listed as a historic monument. The Fontaine des 7 Saints is a heritage spring dating from 1683.

A museum with models and documents

The Musée des Manoirs features 60 scale models and an equal number of explanatory panels. There are also facsimiles of historic documents and interactive features. The exhibition thus offers a range of ways to engage: models to view, panels for explanation, historic documents in facsimile and interactive elements.

If you want to organise your visit around cultural themes, you can plan the museum as a separate focus alongside the churches, chapel and springs. The variety of materials on display lets you move between visual exhibits, explanations and historic documents, rather than focusing on just one type of object.

Two routes, different levels of challenge

The Circuit Penn Stivien is a difficult, yellow-marked circular route covering 20.6 kilometres; the stated walking time is five hours. It starts in the car park in front of Bulat-Pestivien town hall. The distance and walking time help you assess the time required for this route. The yellow markings and named starting point provide further practical details for planning.

The Circuit des Brigands is an 11-kilometre off-road route for trail runners and experienced hikers. In direct comparison, it is shorter than the Penn Stivien; however, the distance alone does not mean it is less demanding. Your choice should therefore take account of both the route length and the stated level of difficulty or intended audience. These details offer two clearly distinct starting points for planning your routes, without suggesting that both are the same kind of outing.

Granite landscape and accommodation planning

Bulat-Pestivien is described as a wild landscape of small winding roads and numerous granite boulders. Coat Gouredenn includes a small patch of woodland, a pond and a mill dating from the 14th or 15th century. The Coatgoureden mill is the last surviving evidence of the seigneurial estate of the same name. Local themes therefore range from landscape and milling history to pilgrimage, church architecture and the museum.

If you are looking for hotels for a stay in Bulat-Pestivien, it helps to decide what you want to focus on: would you like to spend most of your time visiting cultural sites, or plan one of the longer routes? For the Penn Stivien, you can take the stated five-hour walking time into account; for the Circuit des Brigands, the named target audience is an important guide. Match your accommodation plans to the activity that is central to your trip.
