The Château de Pomay was built between 1637 and 1645 on the orders of François de La Croix. The cycling options range from a moderately difficult 6.96-kilometre circular route to a 30-kilometre loop rated difficult. This gives you a choice of different ways to explore Lusigny: its cultural history, outdoor activities, or a combination of both.

The Château de Pomay and local history

The entire grounds of the Château de Pomay have been listed as a historic monument since 1947. Tours last one hour and are available by reservation. They include the area around the château, the entrance, the chapel and the salons. Tours are for groups of at least five and no more than 15 adults. As arrangements may change, contact the provider before your visit.

Another historical connection is the visits Marquise de Sévigné made to Marie-Madeleine de Castille at Pomay in 1676 and 1677. These provide a later point of reference in the château’s history. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste also has a specific art-historical feature: behind the altar in the choir is a retable, or altarpiece, in the Classical style.

Walks, the pond and cycling routes

The Étang de la Ferme is a place for walks, and picnic tables are available there. Fishing is possible, although local restrictions may apply. To put Lusigny in the context of its landscape, the commune is one of the 12 communes in the Sologne bourbonnaise Natura 2000 site. This area is designated as a Special Protection Area under the Birds Directive.

The Balade de l'étang de la ferme is a 6.96-kilometre, moderately difficult circular cycling route in Lusigny. Check route conditions and signage before setting off. A longer alternative, rated difficult, is the 30-kilometre Étangs et châteaux en Sologne bourbonnaise cycling loop. It heads towards Lusigny and the Étang de la Ferme; on the way to the village, it passes the Château de Fougis. The distance and difficulty rating give you concrete points of comparison when choosing between the two routes.

Another cycling route in Lusigny leads to the Demeure Mimorin, a regional-style house with timber framing and two-coloured tiles. This architectural feature offers a different focus from the châteaux and the circular route around the pond: here, the emphasis is on a house built in the regional style.
