Montsoué can be explored through several distinct themes: the highest point in Chalosse, a pilgrimage route, the arenas and culinary offerings at a duck farm. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether the focus should be on views, heritage, Courses landaises or a visit with a tasting. At the Pouy, the landscape and pilgrimage destination take centre stage; at Ferme du Bahus, two activities differ in content and duration.

Views and the Pilgrimage Route at Pouy de Montsoué

Pouy de Montsoué is the highest point in the entire Chalosse region. In clear weather, it offers views of the Adour plain, the beginning of the pine forest to the north and the Pyrenees mountain range to the south. The views are therefore explicitly dependent on clear weather conditions.

A pilgrimage route also leads to the summit: it begins at a chapel at the foot of the Pouy and ends at a small oratory. This gives the route a clearly named destination, while the views are subject to their own weather conditions. If both are a priority, you can take these distinct aspects of the Pouy into account when planning your trip.

Church Art and Arenas

The Church of Sainte-Madeleine in Bahus-Juzanx is Romanesque and preserves an apse built of dressed stone. The chancel also contains a reused fragment of an ancient mosaic. The Marian altar and altarpiece in the church are also part of the site's history: they have been protected since 19 May 1983.

The arenas of Montsoué, by contrast, centre on a venue for events. The rectangular concrete arenas are intended for Courses landaises and provide 800 seats. They were built in 1985 to plans by the approved architect M. Monpezat. The cultural attractions therefore lead to different details: Sainte-Madeleine features Romanesque masonry, a mosaic and protected furnishings, while the arenas are notable for their design, capacity and use for Courses landaises.

Duck Farm and Culinary Insights

Two different activities can take centre stage at Ferme du Bahus. A two-hour event focuses on butchering fattened ducks and combines the subject with culinary tips, preparation advice and a tasting. A tourism listing updated on 19 June 2025 also mentions a visit to the duck farm with a demonstration of traditional force-feeding; this lasts around 1 to 1¼ hours. Check the scheduling conditions before your trip.

The two formats differ in more than just duration: the two-hour event combines butchering with cooking advice and a tasting, while the shorter visit focuses on the farm and a demonstration of traditional fattening. Ducks are raised and fattened on the farm; they live there in complete freedom.

Forest Bathing in the Landes Forest

A tourism listing published on 1 February 2022 describes forest bathing with Julie at Les Arbres et Nous in Montsoué, from May to October. The listing gives a duration of two to three hours for the sessions in the Landes forest. The stated aims are to reconnect with yourself and strengthen your defences through contact with nature. If you are considering this activity for your trip, check availability and dates in advance.

The options described range from a summit with weather-dependent views to specific architectural and artistic features, as well as visits with different focuses and durations. You can choose which themes matter for your trip planning without treating the pilgrimage route, arena visit and farm activities as one single programme.
