Discover Mont-De-Marsan through its distinctive contrasts: historic architecture and sculpture are a key focus, while parks, a riverside walk, the market and a festival offer other highlights. You can tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.

Donjon Lacataye and sculpture

The Musée Despiau-Wlérick is housed in former 13th-century Romanesque stone houses known as the Donjon Lacataye. The museum displays more than 2,000 sculptures. This brings two themes into focus: the architecture of the historic building and the sculpture on display. The Donjon Lacataye has been listed as a Monument historique since 1942. During renovation periods, access to exhibitions may change. Check in advance which visiting options are available for your visit.

In the adjoining Jardin Saint-Vincent of the Musée Despiau-Wlérick, sculptures are displayed among aromatic plants. The combination of garden and art offers a distinctive perspective on sculpture, away from the museum galleries.

Parks and riverside paths

Nature and culture come together in Parc Jean Rameau, where numerous statues line the paths. A flower park on a former nursery site includes a Japanese garden, collections of ferns and perennials, a scented garden and an open-air theatre. There are also games for children and a kiosk with a wooden model of the equestrian statue of Marshal Foch. The park offers everything from gardens and plants to art and play areas.

At Parc animalier de Nahuques, you can watch animals; there is also a playground for children. The animals and facilities may change. If these are important to your visit, check the current options in advance.

The river names also suggest different ways to explore: from the tower of the Donjon, you can enjoy panoramic views over Mont-De-Marsan, the Midou and its banks. Access to the tower may depend on operating conditions; if the view is important to you, check access in advance. The banks of the Midouze are also ideal for a peaceful walk, which can be continued along the towpath. The view from the tower and the riverside path offer two different options.

Marché Saint-Roch and Fêtes de la Madeleine

The Marché Saint-Roch is devoted exclusively to food, takes place on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, and offers local products from the Landes. If you would like to include the market in your stay, choose the morning that fits your travel dates. Its focus on food sets it apart from a general market visit.

The Fêtes de la Madeleine offer a different timeframe: they take place every year, begin on the first Wednesday after 14 July, and last five days. If you are planning your trip around the festival, check the specific event dates. While the market ties a visit to particular mornings, the Fêtes are a multi-day occasion.
