Lévignacq combines a historic village center with practical ways to explore the surrounding landscape. At its heart are well-preserved half-timbered houses and the Église Saint-Martin; beyond its built heritage, circular trails through wetlands and forest, as well as a cycling route to the beach, offer different ways to explore. When planning your visit, it is therefore helpful to distinguish between local history, the different trail landscapes and the route toward the sea.

Village Center, Church and Museum

Numerous well-preserved half-timbered houses shape the appearance of the historic center. The Église Saint-Martin adds a combination of religious paintings and fortifications to the picture of the local architecture: the choir vault features 15th-century wall paintings, and the church also has fortifications and a bell tower shaped like a defensive tower. It is classified as a historic monument. This combination draws attention both to the defensive character of the building and to the paintings inside the church.

The museum of the Association Jean Boucau, the Musée Jean Boucau, is located in the heart of Lévignacq. It presents the local heritage and the lives of its residents from the mid-19th century through the 1950s. It therefore adds the story of local life to a visit that might otherwise focus first on the buildings. The museum is open to the public free of charge in July and August. If a museum visit is part of your plans, check the specific visiting dates before you travel.

The Terra Aventura discovery trail also focuses on Lévignacq and its history, but offers a different experience from the museum: the route is followed using a smartphone app. While the Musée Jean Boucau presents the culture and lives of residents from the mid-19th century through the 1950s, Terra Aventura is an app-based discovery trail. This lets you choose between a museum visit that puts the local story in its historical context and a route focused on local history.

Circular Trails and Landscape

The Circuit de Barzague and the Circuit du Moulin Neuf are both circular trails, but they offer different landscapes. Barzague passes through notable wetlands and forest. Moulin Neuf runs through the forest alongside the Moulin Neuf stream and passes through the traditional Louise district. The key to comparing them is the combination of landscape and local features: Barzague brings wetlands and forest together, while Moulin Neuf combines forest, stream and Louise.

A distinct landscape feature in its own right, Le Vignac is a coastal waterway that crosses the entire commune of Lévignacq.

Cycle to the Coast

The Piste cyclable du Vignac is a shaded route from the entrance to Lévignacq to the beach at Cap de l'Homy. Both the starting point and a specific coastal destination are therefore identified for this cycling route. The Piste du Vignac initially connected Lit-et-Mixe with Lévignacq and was extended to the coast in 2013. The route can thus be understood both by its described course and by how it developed.
