Les Lèves-Et-Thoumeyragues brings together wine landscapes, hiking trails and Romanesque heritage. When planning a stay, it is helpful to know that the two hiking routes have different details: one route has a stated duration and difficulty level, while the other is a longer loop. There is also local wine production, an opportunity to taste wine at La Ferme des Mauberts and the Eglise Notre-Dame de Thoumeyragues, which can be visited by appointment.
Hiking among vineyards and heritage sites
The Circuit de La Beauze is located in the area of Les Lèves-Et-Thoumeyragues in the Pays Foyen region of Gironde and combines wine landscapes with small-scale architectural heritage. The hiking route is 7.5 kilometres long, takes two hours and is rated easy. The Circuit de La Tour is a 12-kilometre circular hike that begins in Les Lèves-Et-Thoumeyragues. This makes La Beauze the shorter route, with specific duration and difficulty details, while La Tour is described as the longer loop.
On the Circuit de La Tour, the trail passes through vineyards and over hillsides; along the route are mills, wine estates and churches in a varied natural landscape. The two routes can therefore be considered from different perspectives: for La Beauze, duration and difficulty rating are part of the comparison, while the loop format and the landscape described shape the impression of La Tour.
Wine, tastings and local products
The vineyards of Les Lèves-Et-Thoumeyragues produce Bordeaux, Sainte-Foy-Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur wines. Vinification takes place either at the local cooperative winery or at around fifty private wineries. The Univitis boutique “Terroirs Vins et Découvertes” showcases red, white and rosé wines made locally from the terroirs of Bordeaux and the Southwest, as well as a selection of local products.
La Ferme des Mauberts offers a visit to its wine cellar and a wine tasting. Visitors can pet horses, learn about mare milking and taste mare’s milk. The farm shop sells soaps and cosmetics made from mare’s milk, as well as a variety of wines. The offerings have different focuses: the Univitis boutique highlights wines and local products, while the farm combines a cellar visit and tasting with horses, mare’s milk and farm shop products.
A Romanesque church with a distinctive bell gable
The Eglise Notre-Dame de Thoumeyragues is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th to 13th century. Its west façade features a three-arched bell gable crowned by a pediment. The specific façade detail and the construction period complement each other: the date places the church in its historical context, while the description of the west side draws attention to its architecture.
The form can be read as a sequence: three arches in the bell gable, with the crowning pediment above. Those interested in historic architectural forms will find a specific detail here rather than merely a general classification as a Romanesque church.
