Le Bouscat offers several reasons to stay: green spaces, historic heritage, cultural events and sport. The places and activities are quite distinct—from a signposted walking loop to parks and a varied events programme.
Urban Forest and Walking Trails
The five-hectare Bois du Bouscat is an urban forest and an educational resource for learning about nature in the city. Its features include artworks, a walking loop, an apiary, an educational feature by a pond and a gardener’s hut. A monthly events calendar lists activities in the forest. If you have a particular date in mind, check the municipality’s information before your visit.
The Chemin des courses offers a specific route: the 2.7-kilometre walking loop runs around the racecourse and the Bois du Bouscat. Alongside the forest’s natural and educational features, you can choose a route with a stated distance. However, no walking time is specified; plan according to your own schedule.
Parks and Heritage
The five-hectare Parc de la Chêneraie brings together the historic Castel d’Andorte and plantings of oaks, cork oaks and magnolias. The Castel is in the park, which hosts cultural and other events throughout the year. Specific programmes vary with the seasons. The Maison Noble des Castel d’Andorte was built in 1785 by Victor-Louis, the architect of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. Castel d’Andorte is also listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
Descriptions of two other parks highlight different features. A wooded park covering 1.7 hectares, with distinctive plane trees, is suitable for walking and relaxing. In the town centre is a 2.5-hectare park with varied plantings and seasonal flower beds. It has a rose garden established in 1925 and a plant maze. Together, nature, gardens and architectural heritage offer more than one way to enjoy a stay in Le Bouscat.
Cultural Dates and Events
L’Ermitage-Compostelle hosts the municipal cultural season programme as well as numerous events. These include a children’s book fair, exhibitions, conferences and concerts by the music school. The venue has 375 seats; programme details change from season to season. La Source adds a quarterly programme of public events and some of the highlights of Le Bouscat’s cultural season. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the relevant dates.
Swimming, Horse Racing and Getting There
The Piscine Municipale du Bouscat reopened to the public on 1 August 2025 after two years of construction. It has a small, ten-metre pool and a large pool measuring 25 metres. Courses include baby swimming and water familiarisation, aqua fitness, swimming lessons for beginners and advanced swimmers, and training for swimming and underwater sports clubs. The pool dimensions provide a specific comparison of the two water areas; the range of courses shows how broad the offer is.
The Hippodrome Bordeaux-Le Bouscat racecourse hosts more than 32 race days a year, with over 230 races in the disciplines of harness racing, trotting and galloping. The annual figures may change, so it is worth checking current dates when planning a specific visit. The Chemin des courses and the racecourse cater to different interests: a walking loop or race days as an event.
At the Sainte-Germaine du Bouscat multimodal transport hub, passengers can use the tram, train, bus and bicycle in one place. As transport services may change, check current connections before travelling. This lets you plan around the services actually available and the aspects of Le Bouscat that interest you.
