Discover Lalande-De-Pomerol through two specific features: a Romanesque church and a wine-growing landscape that can also be explored along a named circular cycling route. There are also different ways to learn about wine—from a guided tour with explanations of the vineyard and cellar to tastings available by appointment only. This gives you a choice of architecture, cycling, and different wine experiences during your stay.
Wine landscape and cycling route
The vineyards of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation extend across successive terraces in the communes of Néac and Lalande-de-Pomerol. The “Boucle vélo: Néac et Lalande de Pomerol” circular cycling route passes through gently rolling wine-growing landscapes in the Saint-Georges Saint-Émilion and Lalande-de-Pomerol appellations.
The route is listed as 13 kilometres long, with a duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes and a moderate level of difficulty. This gives you a specific guide for planning your time, and you can take the stated difficulty rating into account. Check the current route description before setting out, as route details may change.
Romanesque architecture in Lalande-de-Pomerol
The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. It is one of the rare examples of the architecture used by the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem in their commanderies in Western Europe. Its significance therefore goes beyond its period: the church also represents a rare architectural connection to the history of the Order. It offers a distinctive, clearly defined focus for culture alongside wine and landscape.
Discover wine: different types of visit
The family-run Château Castel Viaud is located in the centre of Lalande-de-Pomerol. The estate covers 18 hectares, 15 hectares of which lie within the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. A guided tour begins with an explanation of the terroir and vineyard work. In the cellar, the winemaking process is presented, followed by a tasting of selected wines from the estate. The tour thus takes you from the vineyard through production and on to the tasting.
Château des Moines offers guided wine tastings for individuals and groups. They are paid and available by appointment only. Arrange your visit before you travel. Free tours are listed at Château des Capucins for 2026. Its vineyard and winery are also in the process of converting to organic viticulture; this information refers to its status in 2026.
The Syndicat Viticole de Lalande-de-Pomerol offers a different kind of insight: its permanent exhibition features photographs and paintings about vines and wine. Gift sets for discovering the wines are also sold on site. The exhibition and gift sets therefore offer a different focus from a guided wine tasting.
The timing differs when planning your visit: a duration is specified for the cycling route, while a tasting at Château des Moines requires an appointment. Tours at Château des Capucins are listed in the 2026 programme. If you are planning your stay around a specific wine experience, check the appointment or programme before travelling.
