A large pond is the focal point of the green, 30-hectare Maine Pommier grounds in Lagorce. Oak, pine and fruit trees grow in the wooded areas, alongside extensive meadows. In addition to this landscape, the Église Saint-Pierre and the mill on the Lary offer two distinct perspectives on cultural history. When planning your trip, consider whether you are most interested in a historic church, the history of a technical use, or a landscape-focused destination. Practical arrangements vary: the church requires an appointment in advance, while the more detailed hiking information comes from an earlier offering.

Église Saint-Pierre: building history and visiting

The main construction phase of the Église Saint-Pierre de Lagorce dates to the 12th century. The church has been listed as a historic monument since December 21, 1925. Visits are possible only by prior appointment; you can choose between a self-guided visit and a guided tour. Arrange your visit in advance rather than planning to drop in spontaneously. This makes scheduling a firm part of your visit plans.

The mill on the Lary: changing uses

The mill in Lagorce on the Lary represents a different kind of local history. It was used for a long time to produce flour and later to generate electricity. It also operated a sawmill, powered by two turbines via belts. Its history therefore includes both the long period of flour production and the later generation of electricity and sawmill operation. The combination of turbines, belt drive and sawmill makes the technical aspect concrete: it shows how power was supplied for the sawmill’s work. For culturally minded travelers, the mill complements the church with a theme of local working history.

Maine Pommier: pond, woods and meadows

The Maine Pommier grounds are centered around a large pond. The wooded areas include oak, pine and fruit trees, alongside extensive meadows. Water, wooded areas and open spaces thus stand out as distinct landscape features. Those considering Lagorce for its rural character will find a clearly defined attraction here, distinct from the historic themes of the church and mill. Since management of the grounds may change, check the current arrangements before planning a visit.

Hiking in Lagorce: putting earlier offerings in context

Lagorce has a hiking association called Lagorce Rando. A municipal list from January 2025 includes it as a hiking association; check current activities and contact details before taking part. A municipal bulletin from December 2021 mentions hikes that Lagorce Rando offered at the time on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. They were usually 8 to 10 km long, on paths and small roads, and lasted about two hours. This puts the former schedule, approximate distance and duration in context, but does not provide a current timetable. Do not treat the weekdays as fixed event dates when planning your trip; ask about the current offering.
