Explore Veyrignac through three interests: the Dordogne, active pursuits and architectural history. Canoeing brings specific distances into the picture; the climbing gym, archery and tree climbing differ in terms of activity and planning. The historic buildings reflect different periods, from medieval construction to later alterations and heritage protection. This lets you choose the focus of your trip: the river, outdoor activities or history.

Canoeing on the Dordogne

Veyrignac Canoë Nature operates a leisure facility on the banks of the Dordogne. From the canoe base, visitors can see Fénelon and Montfort on the Dordogne. The canoe routes on offer range from 5 to 30 km. This range gives you a useful point of comparison when considering how far you would like to travel on the water. As route options can change, check which routes are currently available before making plans.

Activities indoors and in nature

The Salle de Veyrignac is an indoor climbing gym for training and physical preparation. Its climbing area covers more than 200 m² and is predominantly overhanging. Tree climbing, by contrast, is about discovering or rediscovering trees, forests and the landscapes of the natural heritage. The two activities therefore combine exercise with different focuses: indoor training on the one hand, natural heritage on the other.

Introductory archery sessions in Veyrignac are available by reservation only. Bear this requirement in mind when planning if you are considering archery as an activity.

Architectural history spanning several centuries

The Château de Veyrignac was rebuilt in the 18th century to plans by Soufflot and is protected as a historic monument. The protection covers the château, its outbuildings, the associated grounds and part of the site with its terrace walls. Both the rebuilding and the extent of the protected area are therefore important historic features of the Château.

The ruins of the Château de Rocanadel in Veyrignac have also been protected as a historic monument since their listing on 12 October 1948. The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens is likewise included in the register of historic monuments. It was built in the 12th century and altered in the 16th and 19th centuries. From 2012 to 2022, the municipality carried out restoration and stabilization work on the church. It thus brings together a medieval origin, later alterations and a more recent period of preservation.

Le four communal was built in 1759. The dates associated with these buildings mark different events: 1759 is the year the communal oven was built, while 12 October 1948 is the date Rocanadel was listed as a historic monument. In the case of the church, its construction, later alterations and restoration from 2012 to 2022 all form part of its history. These distinctions in time help show that Veyrignac’s architectural history does not belong to a single era.
