In Tursac, you can discover different aspects of history: protected buildings, religious traditions and interpretations of prehistory. There is also a seasonal tour about goose farming. When planning your visit, it is worth considering not only the themes but also the ways to explore them: some places can be visited at your own pace, while the tour has a stated duration and seasonal schedule.

Heritage and Religious History

The Maison Forte de Reignac is protected as a Historic Monument and is open to visitors. Inside, you can see furnished rooms from past eras as well as an exhibition about torture and the death penalty. The route is signposted and numbered, so you can explore it at your own pace. Multilingual visitor booklets are available. This lets you explore the rooms and exhibition without a guided tour.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame Fontpeyrine in Tursac is a Romanesque chapel dating from the 14th century. Pilgrimages have been held there since the 18th century. At Fort de Tursac, the history of its protected status is also clearly dated: it is protected as a Historic Monument, including the ruins of its chapel; it was listed by decree on 17 July 1978. Together, the two sites offer different points of interest for anyone interested in cultural history: the chapel’s religious tradition and the protection of a fort and its chapel ruins.

Prehistory from Different Perspectives

The Prehisto Parc offers a fully narrated educational trail with scenes from the daily lives of Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons. Its nature trail introduces plants from prehistoric times to the present and explains how prehistoric people used their properties. On the track trail, you can observe and decipher the tracks of prehistoric animals.

These experiences focus on different things: the educational trail presents ways of life, the nature trail explores plants and their uses, and the track trail focuses on animal tracks. Anyone interested in prehistory can choose the approach that suits them—scenes, knowledge about plants or reading tracks.

At the Village de la Madeleine, you can also set your own pace. Explanatory panels and a visitor booklet help you explore the site; an audio guide is also available in French and English. Check the current visiting arrangements before travelling.

Route and Seasonal Tour

On the return leg of the Boucle de la Vierge No. 20, you can enjoy a view of the Château Marzac.

The Élevage d’oies des Granges in Tursac offers a free guided tour lasting about an hour, with no reservation required. It introduces traditional goose farming and processing, from a one-day-old gosling to the finished product. In July and August, tours take place Monday to Saturday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. As this is a seasonal offer, check the current tour times before your visit.

Plan Your Stay Around the Ways to Explore

Self-guided visits can be contrasted with a tour that has an approximate duration and seasonal times. So first consider whether you want to focus on historic sites, prehistoric attractions or the goose-farming tour.
