Thenon combines adventure activities and a circular walk with a pond, a local producers’ market and historic buildings. When planning, you can consider both clearly differentiated route details and specific local highlights, such as the market on Tuesday mornings. This makes it easy to weigh up exercise, nature, food and architecture as different focuses for your stay.
Adventure Courses and Leisure Activities
At L’Appel de la Forêt, the adventure offering includes 11 independent courses arranged in progressive levels, with more than 150 activity stations. There are also nearly 50 zip lines; the courses are equipped with a continuous belay system. If you would rather plan a different kind of activity, there is also a 2.5-kilometre hiking and trail course with free access, as well as a disc golf course. The trail and disc golf add two other distinct activities to the adventure offering.
Circular Walk and Pond
The Boucle de l’étang starts in Thenon and is near a train station. It is an easy, 2.5-kilometre circular walk on foot that takes one hour. The hiking and trail course at L’Appel de la Forêt is also 2.5 kilometres long and offers free access. Although the routes are the same length, they differ in format and planning details: the Boucle is an easy circular walk with a one-hour walking time, while L’Appel is a hiking and trail course.
The pond in Thenon covers two hectares and has a small beach and first-category fishing waters. Alongside the trails, it is a distinct natural attraction with a clearly stated size and two different features. The beach and fishing waters appeal to different interests, so you need not treat them as the same offering.
Market, Crafts and Cuisine
A traditional local producers’ market takes place in Thenon every Tuesday morning. Rue des Arts et des Saveurs runs through the town centre; producers, craftspeople, creative professionals and artists are based along the main road. These offer two different points of reference for your plans: the market has a set weekly time, while the street is where the groups mentioned above are located in the town centre.
La Guinguette de l’Etang serves traditional home-style cooking made with local producers’ products, as well as artisan-made Périgord ice cream and organic wines. This also brings the theme of local produce into the dining scene. As service details may change, check the latest information before visiting.
Church, Château and Art
The Church of Saint-Martial preserves a 12th-century apse and has a Latin-cross transept. Its Carrara marble altar dates from 1882. The apse and altar provide two differently dated points of reference for the church: a structural feature from the 12th century and a furnishing from the 19th century.
At Le Château, visitors can see part of the keep and the surrounding wall. The church can be understood through its architectural features and furnishings; at the Château, the possible visit specifically concerns parts of these two areas.
Les Gobeurs de Rêves combines a picture-framing workshop with local crafts, an art gallery and a Créa’Broc shop. As business details may change, check the latest information before visiting here, too. Thenon’s cultural offering thus includes not only historic buildings, but also crafts and creative work.
