Salignac-Eyvigues can be explored through a variety of experiences: visits connected with the Middle Ages, landscaped gardens and routes ranging from 2.5 to 8.5 kilometres. The Château de Salignac offers a cultural focus, while the paths in Eyrignac bring together plant life and views of the surrounding valleys. The Boucle des moulins, meanwhile, is an easy circular walk through the countryside and hamlets. When planning your trip, you can choose between historical themes, garden paths and a longer hike.

Château, manor house and local history

The Château de Salignac is one of the oldest estates in the Périgord. Visitors can immerse themselves in daily life in the Middle Ages; self-guided visits are available throughout the visiting season. Check the access information before your trip. The château is partly protected as a historic monument. This protection covers the façades and roofs of the buildings, the fortification walls and the grounds.

The Manoir d’Eyrignac is also listed as a historic monument, since 30 June 2016. The listing covers the estate, including its outbuildings and gardens. This brings two distinct aspects of heritage into focus: at the château, the partially protected structures and fortifications; at the manor house, the broader ensemble of the building, associated structures and garden.

The Village Historique du Périgord Noir is a traditional village reconstructed as it might have appeared in the Middle Ages. The Promenade du bourg de Salignac offers a different perspective on local history, passing numerous washhouses and fountains. Until the French Revolution, Place de la Halle was the central heart of the town. The visitor guide to Salignac also provides free audio guides. A walk through the town and visits with a stronger focus on the Middle Ages offer different ways to explore its history.

Gardens and botanical paths in Eyrignac

Eyrignac and its gardens feature 300 hand-pruned plant sculptures, fountains, flower gardens and a White Rose Garden. Visitors can choose between two easily accessible botanical paths: one is 2.5 kilometres long and the other is 4.5 kilometres. Both let visitors explore the plant life of the Périgord and enjoy views of the surrounding valleys. Comparing the distances can help you choose: the shorter route is 2.5 kilometres, and the longer one is 4.5 kilometres. For the latest information on paths and garden features, check the visitor information before your trip.

A circular route from Salignac-Eyvigues

The Boucle des moulins Salignac is an easy 8.5-kilometre circular hiking route starting in Salignac-Eyvigues. It passes through the hamlet of Eybènes and by the Moulin de la Garrigue and the Ruisseau de l’Inval. The route also crosses the Natura 2000 limestone slopes of Borrèze, where wild orchids grow. Compared with the botanical paths in Eyrignac, the Boucle is longer and identified as a circular route; the descriptions therefore refer to different walking options.

Regional produce and tastings

Foies Gras Crouzel continues a family tradition, making preserves from goose and duck foie gras. The business offers free, individual tasting visits. These combine an introduction to a regional product with a tasting; check the current arrangements for visits before you go. The cultural sites, garden paths, hiking route and tasting visit each offer a different focus. You can decide which ones suit your trip based on their specific themes and route lengths.
