Two hiking trails of similar length in Saint-Jean-D'eyraud differ in their details on duration, elevation gain, woodland character and starting point. There is also the Au bord de l'Eyraud circular trail, with information about riverside vegetation, as well as historic buildings with clearly identified architectural features. You can plan your stay around hiking, nature or architectural history, depending on your interests.

Choose hiking trails by length and character

The Sentier St Jean d'Eyraud is 10.2 km long and starts in the village. The route is listed as taking 2 hours and 50 minutes, with an elevation gain of 215 metres. The Sentier de St Jean is a 10 km, moderately hilly and heavily wooded circular trail that starts at the car park in the village centre. The trails are almost the same length, but the details emphasise different things: the first gives a duration and elevation gain, while the second is characterised by its circular route, woodland and starting point. As the names are similar, check the full name when planning. Check the latest route details before setting out.

By the Eyraud: riverside plants and poplar cultivation

The Au bord de l'Eyraud circular trail provides information about poplar cultivation and plant species that grow by the water. It passes a washhouse and a poplar plantation; information boards explain the riverside vegetation. This includes poplars, willows, ash trees and honeysuckle, among other plants. The Eyraud stream rises in the hamlet of Chadelaygue. This circular trail thus combines waterside themes with specific plant species and a named poplar plantation.

Church, charterhouse and local history

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste has been protected as a historic monument since 5 October 1946. It has a 12th-century bell tower with a dome and a semicircular apse with a cul-de-four vault. These two details draw attention to different features of the church: the bell tower and the vaulted end of the apse.

The Chartreuse de Caville is an 18th-century charterhouse in the woods near the Eyraud. It includes a pavilion with rusticated corner pilasters and a mansard roof. This look at the pavilion adds specific architectural details to the description of the charterhouse.

Bourdarias represents a different aspect of local history: the former hamlet was consolidated into a single estate. As well as old buildings, it includes a dovecote and a well. While the charterhouse and the design of one of its pavilions are the focus at the Chartreuse, Bourdarias tells the story of a hamlet becoming a single estate.

Getting there and finding a place to stay

The Départementale 15 runs through the village centre; the Départementale 4 provides access to the commune. The information thus distinguishes between a road that runs through the centre and the route into the commune.
