Highlights in Lunas include walking routes through forest and valley, the neo-Gothic Saint-Jean-Baptise Church, Ferme de Biorne and the Beau C'est Festival. To choose between the routes, compare their length, walking time and designated uses; history, the animal park and tastings offer further points of interest. This makes it easy to plan your stay around the mix of outdoor activity, culture and local attractions you want.

Walking routes with different profiles

The Boucle de Biorne is a 5.6 km circular route starting in Lunas. It is rated very easy on foot and takes 1 hour 50 minutes. The 5.9 km Boucle de Peypensou also starts in Lunas and is a circular route for hiking and mountain biking. With a difference of just 300 metres in length, the two routes are similar. Walking time and the difficulty of the Biorne route, as well as the additional mountain-biking option on the Peypensou route, are also worth considering.

Forest and waterways

The Boucle de Peypensou passes through the Forêt du Landais and follows the Ironzeau and its tributaries. The Boucle de Biorne runs from east to west through the wooded Ironzeau valley. Another circular route, the Boucle du Cluzeau, starts in Lunas and passes through the Forêt du Landais on its way to Bosset. The routes therefore feature different named landscape landmarks, although two of them pass through the same forest.

The Ironzeau flows into the Eyraud in Lunas. This natural, unnavigable watercourse is 6.47 km long. Together with the valley and its tributaries, it shapes the landscape described along the Boucle de Biorne and the Boucle de Peypensou.

Church and local history

On the Boucle de Biorne, you can discover the neo-Gothic Saint-Jean-Baptise Church in Lunas. It was built after a fire destroyed the former wooden church. Records also indicate that members of the Benedictine order were present in Lunas in the 12th century. If you want to combine a walk with local history, the Biorne route offers a specific point of interest.

Animal park and tastings at Ferme de Biorne

Ferme de Biorne in Lunas has an animal park with ducks, geese, sheep, pigs and chickens. It also offers private, free tasting visits, which last an average of 45 minutes. Products include duck foie gras, rillettes, pâté, poultry gizzards and duck confit. Alongside the animal park, this offers a specific culinary highlight for your stay.
