In Liorac-Sur-Louyre, historic buildings meet the landscape and a workshop where natural cosmetics are made. The Église Saint-Martin and Château de Genthial offer different architectural points of interest; at the Forêt de Liorac and a nearby woodland, nature and wildlife take centre stage. Atelier OlliOz adds guided visits and products such as walnut oil and herbal teas to these themes. You can tailor your stay to whether you are especially interested in architectural history, nature, or production and regional products.

Église Saint-Martin and Château de Genthial

At the Église Saint-Martin, a main construction phase dating to the 12th century is paired with a striking feature on the fortified bell tower: a machicolation on its south side. The church is partly listed and partly classified as a historic monument. The relevant protection measures were established by decree dated 12 February 1971. The construction period and protected status refer to different aspects of the building’s history.

At Château de Genthial, a different architectural feature catches the eye: a covered stone well dating to the 17th century. The château was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 12 October 1948. Together, the church and château offer different ways to explore architectural history: the fortified bell tower and long main construction phase at the church, and the well and historic monument listing at the château. The information about protection measures and listings applies to each specific building.

Forêt de Liorac and woodland nature

The Forêt de Liorac is partly protected as a regional nature reserve; access is regulated. Check the access conditions before visiting. This is an important distinction to bear in mind when planning your day, compared with the historic buildings: for the forest, consider the rules in force rather than assuming you can visit without checking first.

The slopes and meadows around the Forêt de Liorac are home to numerous orchid species. This information refers to the surrounding area and does not imply that every individual area is part of the forest. A typical Périgord woodland, dominated by chestnut and oak trees, is also nearby. It provides a habitat for numerous woodland animals, including red squirrels, martens and woodpeckers. The birds mentioned include song thrushes, mistle thrushes, Eurasian golden orioles and woodland raptors. Cavity-nesting songbirds such as tits, nuthatches and treecreepers are also among them. If you are interested in plants, the orchids offer a different aspect of nature from the wildlife of the nearby woodland.

Visits and products at Atelier OlliOz

Atelier OlliOz Liorac is located in an old tithe barn and makes natural cosmetics. It mainly uses walnut oil with AB certification and wild-growing plants with AB certification. You can visit the workshop without a guide; guided visits are available by prior arrangement. If you would like a guided visit, arrange it in advance. Visit arrangements may change.

The workshop boutique offers local walnuts, walnut oil, honey, chestnut cream and herbal teas. This selection connects your visit with regional products, without implying a broader culinary range. The availability of individual products may also change. For planning purposes, the location’s three themes can be distinguished as follows: the church and château represent specific architectural and heritage protection history; the Forêt and nearby woodland offer nature with different access and landscape contexts; and the workshop focuses on production, visits and selected products.
