Daglan offers different ways to experience culture and nature: the Maison de la Pierre Sèche et du Causse focuses on regional themes, while the Céou and the paths around the village offer opportunities for outdoor activities. When planning a stay, it is worth checking the different durations and dates of the activities.

Dry-Stone Walls and Building History

The Maison de la Pierre Sèche et du Causse is open to visitors free of charge and aims to help raise awareness of and preserve the area’s natural and cultural heritage. Check the current opening hours before your visit.

The free permanent exhibition is divided into six sections: dry-stone structures, the Causse, grapevines, truffles, the grain harvest, and weather and climate. Some displays may change over time. The themes span building techniques and landscapes, as well as local products and agricultural work. If you are interested in several of these subjects, you can explore them all in one exhibition.

The Église Saint-Martin de Daglan offers another perspective on building history. It was built in the 11th and 12th centuries and has been altered several times. The exhibition’s changing themes thus sit alongside the church’s long building history: one offers insight into regional life and work, the other into the development of a historic building.

By the Céou and on the Trails

The Céou is classified as a first-category river at Daglan. Kayakers use the river, and competitions are held there in winter. If you would like to plan your stay around a competition, check the specific dates in advance. A fishing permit is required for angling and is available at the town hall. Before your trip, find out about the applicable fishing rules and permit arrangements.

Daglan is a starting point for numerous mountain biking and hiking routes. Your choice of route will also depend on whether you plan to walk or ride a mountain bike; check the conditions for the specific route before setting out. In 2020, the département selected the Sentier de la Bégonie as one of the ten most beautiful hiking trails in the Dordogne. This distinction is tied to a specific date: it refers to the selection made in 2020.

Guided Tours and Nature Themes

The three-hour “Géologie et Paysages” excursion runs from La Roque-Gageac to Daglan. Its dates are announced separately. If you would like to include this tour in your stay, check the date that suits you and allow for the full stated duration.

“Les plantes et fleurs du causse” is a free, three-hour hike that starts in the village of Daglan. An expert guide shares knowledge about the biodiversity of the Céou slopes. “Les orchidées et plantes du causse” is also free and lasts three hours: this hike follows the slopes of Daglan during the flowering season and is accompanied by members of the Société d'Orchidophilie. The specific dates are announced separately; for the orchid walk, the flowering season is also an important factor in planning.

Another guided hike covers three kilometres and lasts two hours. It explains dry-stone walls, shelters and cayrous. Visits are by appointment; availability may change. These options therefore differ in both duration and organisation: alongside the three-hour tours, whose dates are announced separately, there is a two-hour guided tour that you can arrange in advance.

The seasonal notes also differ: kayak competitions are held in winter, while the orchid walk is tied to the flowering season. Check the relevant dates if these activities are important to your travel plans.
