Conne-De-Labarde offers a distinctive introduction to architectural history and water heritage. The church dates from the 12th century; numerous hand-pump wells and the washhouses date from the 19th century, while the canal locally known as the “vivier” dates from the late 19th century. Two walking options offer a different perspective on your stay: the Boucle de la Vallée starts in Conne-de-Labarde, and a vineyard walk is offered at Vignoble des Verdots. At 6.6 and 2 kilometres, they differ considerably in length and focus on different things.

Church and water heritage

The church of Conne-de-Labarde dates from the 12th century and was completely restored in 1860. By decree of 28 January 2013, it was listed in its entirety as a protected historic monument. Its history therefore encompasses more than one date: its medieval origins, complete restoration and subsequent monument status are three distinct periods. The restoration describes the work carried out on the building, while the decree established its later protected status. This sequence offers a specific focus on architectural history and heritage protection for a cultural visit.

Conne-de-Labarde has numerous hand-pump wells, built in the 19th century to replace some wells. The washhouses also date from the 19th century; the canal locally known as the “vivier” dates from the latter part of that century. These water features extend the historical perspective beyond the church, bringing together several types of structure and different time periods. The replacement of some wells also makes the water heritage a tangible part of the changing history of local water use.

Circular route and vineyard walk

The Boucle de la Vallée is a 6.6 km circular route that starts in Conne-de-Labarde. It passes through hilly landscapes with numerous springs and follows a stream called la Conne. Fontaine Les Bayles is a named point on the route. Its circular format and length give the landscape experience a clear form, making it possible to describe the route not only by its distance but also by its type.

The vineyard walk at Vignoble des Verdots is 2 km long and leads through the vineyards to discover the region’s terroir. At 6.6 km, the Boucle is more than three times as long; the routes also have different focuses: hills, springs and a stream on the circular route, and vineyards and terroir on the walk. Vignoble des Verdots also offers a seasonal picnic option that can be reserved. The basket is prepared by Maison Wessman par Thierry Marx restaurant and includes seasonal local products as well as half a bottle of wine for two people. The vineyard walk is seasonal. The picnic option is also seasonal and requires a reservation; confirm the current arrangements before your visit. The vineyard walk without a picnic is free of charge, and registration at reception is required.
