Badefols-D'ans stands atop a 300-metre-high hill on the border of the Dordogne and Corrèze departments. In clear weather, the village offers panoramic views of the Périgord and the mountains of Auvergne. The landscape and architectural history thus provide two distinct focal points for a stay. Take clear weather into account when planning if the views are important to you.

Château and Church: Two Architectural Histories

The Château de Badefols-d'Ans forms a promontory and overlooks the vast plain from the hillside. Its buildings date from the 14th and 15th centuries. It was listed as a historic monument by decree on 11 September 2007. Its location and construction period provide different points of reference: the promontory describes the château’s position above the plain, while the centuries place the buildings in time. The listing date adds another temporal reference to this architectural history. The construction period and decree answer different questions: the centuries date the buildings, while the date marks their listing as a monument.

The Église Saint-Vincent et Saint-Cloud is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century and was originally a single-nave church. Two passageways were built into the nave walls behind the dome. It too was listed as a historic monument by decree on 12 October 1948. Compared with the château, it dates from an earlier period; at the same time, its original layout and passageways provide different architectural details from the château’s position above the plain. The original single-nave design describes the floor plan, while the two passageways add another spatial feature. This makes it possible to understand the church not only through its style and period, but also through its described spatial arrangement.

Motorsport: Competitions and Driving Practice

Badefols-d'Ans also has a designated motorsport track. It is used for car, buggy and kart competitions, with a maximum of two sporting events per year. For driver training or driving practice, ten weekends and four weekdays are scheduled between March and October. The limited annual competition schedule thus differs from the separately planned training times. If you would like to plan your stay around a competition or practice session, check the specific event dates in advance.

A Look at a Family Farm

La Ferme Roulland offers a discovery tour of the family farm throughout the year. The tour introduces walnut and truffle production, duck farming, and the fattening of ducks with whole corn kernels. This visit combines farm produce with animal husbandry, offering a different focus from the historic buildings or motorsport track. Check the current visiting arrangements before you travel.
