For a stay in Allemans, architectural history and walks through the countryside can be combined as two main highlights. One practical difference when planning is the route length: the Boucle d’Allemans is 8.6 kilometres long, while the Boucle d’Allemans – Le bourg is 1.5 kilometres long. Both circular routes start in Allemans, are easy and can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. You can choose based on your preferred distance first, then decide how much time the longer loop should take up in your day’s itinerary.

Church and Architectural History

The Église Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens is a fortified church built in the late 12th or early 13th century. It has been listed as a historic monument since 9 June 1926. Its architecture includes a Romanesque vault with domes on pendentives, as well as a modern bell-tower porch in the Byzantine style. The different architectural elements give the church its distinctive character.

The church can be visited during town hall opening hours and on European Heritage Days. Check local opening hours and the dates of these heritage days when planning your visit.

Manor Houses from Different Centuries

The Manoir du Lau, a manor house dating from the 16th century, stands in the centre of the village. It was extensively altered in the 19th century. It is undergoing renovation and is not open to visitors; as access may change, check the current situation before planning a visit.

The Château de la Rigaudie was built in the first quarter of the 19th century, is privately owned and is listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage. The Château du Meynard is also privately owned. The manor house dates from the 18th century; in the 19th century, an unusual residential tower inspired by medieval architecture was added. The two châteaux thus represent different building periods: one dates from the early 19th century, while the other originated in the 18th century and gained its distinctive tower later.

Walking Routes in the Dronne Valley

The Boucle d’Allemans runs through the Dronne Valley, combining historic and natural scenery. It passes through a former Templar parish. Its surviving traces include a fortified Romanesque church and a Templar cross in an old house. As well as offering an 8.6-kilometre route, the loop provides a historical context that draws your attention to the buildings and their surroundings as you walk or cycle.

The shorter Boucle d’Allemans – Le bourg is 1.5 kilometres long. Both loops are easy circular routes that start in Allemans and can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. When choosing between them, the main considerations are your preferred distance and how much time you want to devote to the route in your day’s plans. Trail conditions can change; check the route’s condition before setting out.

Riverside Paths and Fishing

Two municipal paths lead to the river: one is below the Papali weir, and the other leads to the Meynard weir. Both locations are considered notable environmental sites. The paths add two specific riverside destinations to the walking routes; conditions on these paths may also change.

Fishing is one of the special leisure activities on the local rivers, including the Dronne, Lizonne, Sauvanie and Boulon. Fishing is subject to the landowner’s permission and applicable regulations. Check both if you plan to fish during your stay.

Cultural Projects

La Montagne Sud is a venue in Allemans for multidisciplinary projects, including artistic creativity. It offers spaces for artist residencies of short, medium or longer duration. Activities and participation conditions may change. Together with its architectural history and walking routes, these projects offer another glimpse of the area’s cultural life.
