Kingersheim offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: leisure facilities at ParK des Gravières, walking paths at Poumon Vert, the Dollerbaechlein and culture at Espace Tival. The themes range from outdoor activities to the history of the former Tival textile factory.
Play, Sports and Walking Paths
Le ParK des Gravières is a public park created on a former derelict sports site. It serves as a family-friendly, sociable, playful and ecological meeting place. Facilities include a play structure with several slides, sports grounds and a bowl for skateboarding and inline skating. An educational cycling course adds to the options. The various facilities give the park’s role as a meeting place a concrete form: they range from play and sports to wheeled activities and cycling. This makes it easy to decide whether the park is of interest for your stay based on the activities you have in mind.
Poumon Vert comprises three walking paths, created as an extension of ParK des Gravières. The paths are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, and you can explore them on foot or by bicycle. This gives Kingersheim a distinct focus on walking routes in addition to the park’s facilities. The distinction is useful when choosing between them: ParK focuses on play, sports and wheeled activities, while Poumon Vert offers walking paths for exploring on foot or by bicycle. The paths’ suitability for strollers and wheelchairs also provides concrete guidance if these considerations are important for your plans.
The Dollerbaechlein as a Walking Destination
The Dollerbaechlein is a popular place for walks and also has its own history as a watercourse. It was originally an artificial canal and a diversion of the Doller. It runs for 12 km before flowing into the Ill at Ensisheim. Unlike Poumon Vert, which comprises three walking paths, the watercourse itself—with its origins and route—is the main point of interest here. This lets you choose between purpose-built walking paths and a waterway with a clearly defined connection to both the Doller and the Ill.
Culture and Industrial History at Tival
Espace Tival is an event and conference hall created by renovating one of the last buildings of the former textile factory on the old Tival site. It hosts performances, concerts, dance events, screenings, conferences and exhibitions. Espace Tival also hosts a large part of Momix, the international festival for young audiences. The variety makes the hall relevant to a range of cultural interests: its program includes stage events as well as screenings, conferences and exhibitions. Momix adds a particular focus on young audiences. The venue’s cultural use is thus connected with the renovated building of the former textile factory.
The history of textile production also has several tangible aspects. At its peak, the former Tival textile factory employed more than 800 people. Workshops adjoining the former Tival castle were built between 1860 and 1870 and used for fabric printing in the 1920s. The workshops’ construction and their later use therefore belong to different periods of industrial history. Together with the number of employees, these details offer a glimpse of the former textile site beyond Espace Tival’s current role as an event venue.
