A stream runs through Weinbourg, while the Saint-Wendelin Church stands on higher ground in the southern part of the village, overlooking it. The landscape and architectural history are reflected in specific features of the place. Weinbourg is located in the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park. The Weinbaechel flows through Weinbourg, is 4.1 kilometres long and is a tributary of the Moder. The municipality includes 358 hectares of forest, of which 110 hectares are state forest.
Hiking between a stage and the landscape
Orchards and forests around Weinbourg offer opportunities for hiking. Stage 4 of the GR®531 from Lichtenberg to La Petite-Pierre also passes through Weinbourg. Along the route, the GR®531 is marked with a blue rectangle. These options differ in ways that may help with your planning: the stage is specifically defined by its named places and trail markings, while the orchards and forests offer hiking opportunities in the landscape around Weinbourg.
Architectural history in Weinbourg
The Protestant parish church of Saint-Wendelin is located on Rue Hohl in Weinbourg. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages; the nave was rebuilt in 1751. Standing on higher ground in the southern part of Weinbourg, the church overlooks the village. The nave is the central longitudinal space of the building; the year 1751 dates its reconstruction. A remarkable 16th-century house is also part of the architectural landscape.
Fountains and regional cuisine
The Dorfbrunne is a fresh-water fountain and a former washhouse. Work began in autumn 1848; the fountain was operational in 1949. These two dates therefore mark different historical milestones: the start of the work and the point at which the fountain became operational. The Bärebrunne is crowned by a lion and is located near the Le Bois Flotté restaurant. While the former use and construction history are central to the Dorfbrunne, the lion motif defines the appearance of the Bärebrunne.
Depending on market availability and the season, the Le Bois Flotté restaurant offers Alsatian specialities such as tarte flambée and game dishes. It also highlights products from the region. The seasonal and market-dependent selection is part of the offering: tarte flambée and game dishes are examples, not items on an unchanging year-round menu. If you have a particular dish in mind, check the current offering before your visit, as the selection and season affect the menu.
A dated glimpse into village life
At the ninth Fête des jardiniers, held on 4 May 2025, the village centre was transformed into a large garden for a day. The programme included local craftspeople, plants and demonstrations of traditional crafts. This edition brought together a focus on gardens, local crafts and demonstrations of traditional techniques.
