Soultz-Les-Bains is located on the Alsace Wine Route. The village combines marked trails through vineyards with church art, fountains and traces of past uses. This offers different options for planning your trip: a hike featuring historical themes, a look at architectural and organ history, or a cycling route through several wine-growing villages.

Church, organ and historical traces

The tower of Saint Maurice Church was built between 1185 and 1200. The church has been classified as a historic monument since 1996. Another distinctive feature of the village is the Silbermann organ: it was restored in 2007 and returned to its 1848 condition. Its surviving pair of wedge bellows is the only surviving pair by Jean-André Silbermann. The building history and organ restoration highlight different periods: the church tower points to the Middle Ages, while the restoration describes the more recent history of the instrument.

The fountains also tell of earlier uses. The Holtzbrunne fountain dates from the 19th century, was once used as a watering place for flocks of sheep, and lies on a Club Vosgien route. The first written records of the Kaltenbrunne fountain date from 1651; restoration of the site was completed in October 2000. The former lime kiln, in turn, was used to process limestone from nearby quarries. Historic structures and everyday functions can thus be seen as different aspects of the village’s history.

Hiking between vineyards and history

The marked Sentier des Casemates circular trail combines hiking with historical discovery. It passes through vineyards and forests, linking the landscape with remains from the First World War and panoramic views. Route details may change; check them before your hike. Numerous other marked trails also run through the vineyards.

Another option is the Sentier des croix et oratoires. The full route can be divided into an approximately 6 km yellow loop and a 7.5 km red loop. These two distances offer a concrete comparison when choosing between the marked circular trails. For a different way to get around, the 25 km Couronne d'Or mountain biking circuit passes through the wine-growing villages of Ergersheim, Wolxheim and Soultz-Les-Bains. The hiking trails and mountain biking circuit therefore differ both in route format and in their stated lengths.

Jesselsberg, winegrowing and nature

Jesselsberg offers views of Strasbourg Cathedral and the Donon. The municipality of Soultz-Les-Bains has leased its 22-hectare site to the Conservatoire des Sites Alsaciens for 99 years. Depending on the season and location, hawthorn, dogwood, privet, barberry and sage may grow there; skylarks, kestrels, magpies and lizards can also be seen, along with signs of deer or badgers. The plants and animals are not visible at every time of year or in every location; possible sightings are not guaranteed.

Winegrowing is another part of the village’s profile. All seven Alsatian grape varieties are represented in the Soultz-Les-Bains wine-growing area, with Riesling and Gewürztraminer predominating. Together with its location on the Alsace Wine Route and the paths through the vineyards, this gives the area a strong connection to the regional wine landscape. If you prefer to travel by bike, you can consider the Couronne d'Or mountain biking circuit as a separate 25 km route option; it passes through three wine-growing villages.

Note about Sulzbad

The Sulzbad thermal site lies partly in Soultz-Les-Bains. Historically, Sulzbad reopened in early 1999 and became a spa and wellness centre. Following the fire on 29 July 2025, the facility remained closed according to operator information from June 2026; reopening was not planned for 2026. If you are travelling after 2026, check the current status in advance.
