Saulxures combines architectural history with landscape attractions. The present-day Saint-Michel parish church and the Demeure dite manoir de Bénaville are two historical landmarks; the Circuit poussettes H06 and the Point de lecture du paysage draw attention to paths and scenery. When choosing accommodation, you can first consider whether architectural history, a route through the forest or a landscape viewpoint will shape your stay most.
Architectural history in Saulxures
The present-day Saint-Michel parish church was built in 1790 and is the parish church of Saulxures. Its architecture includes a projecting tower with a portal, a nave with four bays and a semicircular choir. The nave is the main area of the church; bays are sections that divide this space. At Saint-Michel, therefore, the description “four-bay” means four such sections, while the choir is described as a separate, semicircular area. This makes it possible to consider the building’s exterior form separately from the layout of the church interior.
Another historical landmark is the Demeure dite manoir de Bénaville in Saulxures. The building dates from the first quarter of the 18th century, making it older than the present-day parish church, which was built in 1790. Comparing them brings together two different dating formats: a period within a century for the manoir and a single year of construction for Saint-Michel. The Demeure can therefore be dated earlier than the church.
Paths and landscape
The Circuit poussettes H06 is 10.7 kilometres long. It starts at the car park of the salle des fêtes in Saulxures and follows a cycle path through the forest towards Bourg-Bruche. Its length, starting point and route provide concrete reference points for planning your day. Use the distance to assess whether the route fits into your planned day. The nearest railway station is Saint-Blaise-la-Roche - Poutay. If you plan to travel by train, check the connections for your travel date.
Another landscape highlight is the Point de lecture du paysage. It can be reached from the road to the Col du Hantz via a country path towards the Chapelle de Bénaville. The H06 focuses on distance and route, while the Point is about the landscape view and access via the country path. Path conditions can change, so check them before your visit.
Stays and accommodation
You can use the focus of your stay as a practical guide when choosing accommodation. If you are interested in architectural history, each of the two historic buildings has a specific date that you can compare. If you would like to plan time for the landscape, the 10.7-kilometre route and the landscape viewpoint offer different options.
