Thermal traditions and hiking trails define Niederbronn-Les-Bains. A spa town in the Vosges du Nord, it holds the Station Verte ecotourism label. The long-distance GR53 hiking trail passes through the town centre; hiking trails run through the Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord, which is recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Thermal Baths Between the Present and Antiquity

The thermal baths in the town centre, opposite the casino, offer modern facilities for balneotherapy and physiotherapy. Various hydromassage treatments are available depending on individual needs; treatments to support health and fitness are also offered. The availability of individual treatments may change, so check what is currently on offer before your visit.

The ancient Roman baths offer another perspective on the town’s history. They can be visited free of charge seven days a week using the “Via Janus” app. The app provides a self-guided tour and an augmented-reality reconstruction of the ancient building. Check that the app is available before travelling.

Hiking to the Castle, Through the Forest and to the Summit

The ruins of Château de la Wasenbourg date from the 13th century. They can only be reached on foot from the town centre, in about an hour. From there, the remarkable view stretches across the Alsatian plain to the Black Forest.

A circular trail in the Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord heads towards Château de la Wasenbourg and leads through the forest past remains from Celtic, Roman and medieval times. Another circular trail leads to Grand Wintersberg. At 581 m, it is the highest point in the Vosges du Nord; from here, views extend across the Vosges du Nord, the Alsatian plain and the Black Forest. The destinations offer different highlights: Wasenbourg focuses on historical remains, while Wintersberg offers height and far-reaching views. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Archaeology and Cultural Programme

The Maison de l’Archéologie des Vosges du Nord has been awarded the Musée de France designation. It displays more than 100 prehistoric objects and a reconstruction of a prehistoric settlement. The exhibition thus brings together archaeological finds and a depiction of a reconstructed habitat.

Le Moulin 9 offers a varied cultural season featuring music, theatre and comedy. During the warmer months, outdoor events complement the programme, including concerts, festivals and photography exhibitions. As schedules change, it is advisable to check the specific programme in advance.

Outdoor Activities and Events

The Niederbronn-Les-Bains mini-golf course, also known as Golf sur pistes, offers 18 outdoor holes in a shaded municipal leisure park. It is open to all age groups but operates seasonally. For mountain bikes, there is a cross-country VTT course with three trails designated exclusively for this purpose: a green trail for beginners, a blue one for intermediate riders and a red one for experienced riders. Access and safety conditions may change; check them before riding.

Every year in late June, Livres en FĂŞte takes place as an open-air literary event in Parc du Golf. Authors, publishers, illustrators and readers come together there. During Week-end Bien-ĂŞtre, Parc du Golf becomes a public Village Zen for two days in late September, with workshops, sessions and free activities focused on wellbeing, relaxation and health practices. Check the specific event dates and programmes before travelling.
