Mittelhausbergen lies at the foot of the Hausbergen hills and at the gateway to the Kochersberg. Saint-Jacques and the Coteaux de Hausbergen give the village two distinct focal points: a church with a clearly dated building history and a landscape used for walks. There are also events at named venues, whose dates and programmes may play a role in planning your trip. You can therefore shape your stay around culture, nature or a suitable event date.

Saint-Jacques: Cemetery, Reconstruction and Onion Dome

The history of Saint-Jacques church can be traced through several distinct dates. The old cemetery surrounding the church was established in 1717. The present-day church was rebuilt in 1723 after the older building had fallen into serious disrepair. The onion dome was added in 1774. An onion dome is a tower roof with a bulbous silhouette; its addition therefore belongs to a later phase than the reconstruction. The cemetery, reconstruction and tower thus represent different aspects of the village’s history.

The church interior also contains the tomb of Eléonore Sidonie, Baroness of Rathsamhausen d’Ehnwihr. The Saint-Jacques site therefore includes both the exterior grounds with the cemetery and a named tomb inside the church. The architecture, surroundings and tomb can be considered as distinct historical points of interest, rather than combining the dates into a single building project.

Coteaux de Hausbergen: Nature and Walking Paths

The Coteaux de Hausbergen form the highest point in the Eurométropole and are characterised by a rich variety of flora and fauna. The landscape includes allotment gardens, paths through sunken areas and wooded sections used for walks. Here, the focus is on biodiversity and the area’s varied landscape features. This sets the Coteaux apart from Saint-Jacques: there, the subject is shaped by building history and the tomb inside the church; here, by the landscape and its use for walks. If you want to balance culture and nature, you can consider these two focal points separately or combine them.

The Chemin de la Klamm connects the village of Mittelhausbergen with the Piste des Forts. Alongside the areas of the Coteaux used for walks, this provides a specific named route between the village and the Piste. If you plan to take the Chemin, check the path conditions before setting out.

Events and Their Dates

Mittelhausbergen’s Christmas market takes place around Saint-Jacques church. It features arts and crafts, children’s activities and refreshments; dates and programmes vary from year to year. If the market is important to your trip, check the specific dates and programme before making plans.

The 15th edition of the FĂŞte du Livre des Auteurs was announced for March 2026 at the Espace Sportif et Culturel in Mittelhausbergen. This event adds a distinct cultural focus to the church and the Coteaux.
