Breitenbach offers a variety of reasons to stay: adventure activities, hiking and insights into the village’s history. When planning, you can first decide what you want to focus on. Are you looking for exercise and activities, a hike with specific route details, or discoveries in the village? The options differ considerably in character, so you can choose the ones that best match your interests.

Adventure activities with a range of options

Parc Alsace Aventure is located in the municipality of Breitenbach, on the border with the municipality of Le Hohwald. Its activities include a total of 3,000 metres of zip lines and ten treetop courses, as well as mountain biking and paintball. The programme also includes educational courses and the discovery of regional products. The selection therefore ranges from activities in the trees and sports to activities with a greater focus on learning and regional products.

The Grand Vol paragliding school offers a different kind of experience. Since 1998, it has offered tandem flights and lessons on the slopes of Champ du Feu in Breitenbach, in the Val de Villé. While Parc Alsace Aventure lists several types of activities, Grand Vol focuses on paragliding. This distinction is useful if you want to make a particular experience the focus of your stay.

Hikes with different points of interest

The Chaume des Veaux hike climbs to the heights of the Val de Villé and offers a viewpoint at Pelage. It is 4.6 kilometres long, with 247 metres of elevation gain, and takes about two hours. You can do it on foot or on snowshoes. The duration is a guideline; practical conditions may vary. For planning, you therefore have an approximate duration as well as information about the distance and ascent.

The La forĂŞt de Chirgoutte hike passes through the Vosges forest and is suitable for families. When there is enough snow, it can also be done on snowshoes. Compared with Chaume des Veaux, the focus here is on the forest setting and its stated suitability for families; snowshoes are an option only when snow conditions allow. The hikes described therefore differ mainly in their setting and in the conditions explicitly mentioned.

Discover the village and its history

The Balade ludique à Breitenbach offers a different approach from a hike with specified route details: this discovery trail leads through various corners of the village using puzzles and clues, and encourages you to observe your surroundings. If you are interested in the village’s places and details, this is an experience where looking closely is part of the fun.

The Church of Saint-Gall is a distinctive part of the village’s history. It was built in 1891–1892 to replace the former place of worship. The choir of the earlier church dates from the 14th or 15th century. Outside service times, the church is visible through the windows in the entrance area. This arrangement may change; check with the parish for current details before your visit.

A joint project for habitats

The landscape is also part of what makes Breitenbach distinctive. Since 2017, Breitenbach and Saint-Martin have been participating in the Trame Verte et Bleue project. It aims to protect natural and wetland habitats and connect them with corridors, for the benefit of species and biodiversity. The project is therefore an initiative that focuses on nature and connectivity. Along with the hikes and outdoor activities, it gives a picture of the destination that takes in not only exercise, but also the landscape and its habitats.
