At Sahanranta, the lake, swimming beach and Midsummer tradition take center stage; in winter, attention turns to the cross-country ski trail network near Lannevesi School. There is also a monument by a rapids and handcrafted products from Lannevesi. These different points of interest help you plan your stay around the season and your interests.

Sahanranta: Relax by the Lake

Sahanranta is a shared lakeside recreation area near the village center. The swimming beach has a jetty, a well-maintained and clean changing hut, and an outdoor toilet. Check the condition of the facilities before your trip.

From Sahanranta, the large, beautiful and fish-rich Lake Summasjärvi and its islands offer opportunities for fishing and boating trips. At the same recreation area, you can choose between the swimming beach and excursions on the lake. If you include the lake in your plans, you can distinguish between a day at the beach and a fishing or boating trip without confusing different place names.

Summer Events and Midsummer

At Midsummer, a Midsummer bonfire is traditionally lit beside the shelter at Sahanranta. Arrangements may vary from year to year; check the dates if you would like to include the bonfire in your travel plans.

A local description from December 2022 lists Sampola's summer events as popular annual events in Lannevesi. The dates of the individual events are important for planning. The Midsummer bonfire and the Sampola events offer different seasonal points of interest: one centers on a longstanding tradition, while the other is a summer events program.

Cross-Country Skiing When Winter Conditions Allow

In winter, a cross-country ski trail network is maintained in Lannevesi when there is enough snow and ice. The trails start near Lannevesi School. Before using them, check that snow and ice conditions are suitable and find out the current condition of the trails. This winter option is quite different from the lake and summer activities: it depends on specific conditions and should only be included in your plans after checking the latest situation.

Monument, Mill and Crafts

The Tarmo Manni monument stands by a rapids next to Hernesalmi Mill in Lannevesi. It is a work by Kain Tapper, Itkevä kivi from 2000, called Crying Stone in English. The artwork is therefore tied to a specific waterside location. The monument can be reached via Kiimasjärventie from the Jyväskylä–Uurainen–Saarijärvi road; it is about one kilometer from Napulanpolku.

In addition to the monument, Hernesalmi Mill operates as a private café and restaurant in summer. Since it operates seasonally, check the opening days for your travel dates. This lets you plan a visit to the monument separately from a café visit, rather than assuming they have the same opening hours.

In Lannevesi, Palsanpuron Paja makes jewelry, knives, tools, and decorative and functional items entirely by hand. For those interested in culture, the monument and the handcrafted products offer two different points of interest: one is a named work of art from 2000, while the others are handcrafted items in several categories.

Lannevesi in the Wider Landscape

The wider destination of Central Finland brings together landscapes of forests, ridges, mires and waterways. This regional perspective complements, but does not replace, the specific destinations in Lannevesi: locally, the focus is on Sahanranta, ski trails that can be used when conditions allow, and cultural sites. Which of these shapes your stay depends mainly on whether you are interested in the lake, seasonal events, winter cross-country skiing, or art and crafts.
