Juokslahti combines birdwatching at the Vilusen lintutorni, sauna culture at Saunakylä and activities along the shores of Lake Päijänne. The seasons bring different highlights: in winter, the landscapes invite you to go cross-country skiing and ice fishing, while in summer you can enjoy smoke saunas from different parts of Finland on Saturdays. There is also fishing, boating and hiking on Lake Päijänne. To plan your trip, first decide whether you want to focus on the lakeshore, the history of smoke saunas or winter activities.
Birdwatching at the Vilusen lintutorni
The Vilusen lintutorni is located on the shore of Juokslahti. It is about three metres high, sturdily built and partly covered. You can observe waterbirds and field birds there. The tower offers good views of Vilunen and the surrounding fields. For directions: from the junction where Road 9 meets Road 6050 towards Jämsänkoski, it is about 2.5 kilometres to the tower, which is right beside the road. Road conditions can change.
On Lake Päijänne and in the winter landscape
The shores of Lake Päijänne in Juokslahti invite you to fish, go boating, hike and explore. Fishing and boating bring you directly onto the water, while hiking and exploring offer a different focus along the shore. Juokslahden kivilaavu, a natural shelter with a fire pit, is another named place near the Maakuntaura trail. In winter, Juokslahti’s landscapes invite you to go cross-country skiing and ice fishing. The shift from boating and fishing to ice fishing marks a seasonal difference; cross-country skiing adds an activity in the landscape to the winter options.
