Randvere brings together coastal defences, village history and trails by the water. This offers different ways to plan your trip: you can focus on historic structures and local milestones, or shape your stay around trails and coastal scenery. The local highlights range from a coastal battery and a church to a lit health trail and a registered bathing area.

Coastal Defences and Local History

The Tammneeme coastal defence battery is also known locally as the Randvere Battery. Work on the facility was completed in 1927. Its gun emplacements and former barracks building are protected as architectural monuments; the Canet gun platforms have been preserved. The battery is a monument to Estonia’s engineering achievements. It therefore offers a clear focal point for visitors interested in the history of engineering and coastal defence.

Other milestones also form part of the area’s history. In 1693, there were eleven farmsteads in Randvere village. Randvere Peetri Church was built between 1848 and 1852. The dates refer to different things: 1693 is the number of farmsteads in the village, 1848 to 1852 is the church’s construction period, and 1927 marks the completion of work on the battery.

These three historical themes are easy to distinguish: the farmsteads represent village life, Peetri Church represents church construction, and the battery represents military and technical coastal defence. This means Randvere cannot be reduced to a single historical period.

Health Trail and Routes

The Tädu Health Trail (Randvere) lies in the eastern part of the Viimsi Peninsula and runs through the areas of Randvere, Tammneeme and Leppneeme. The lit health trail follows Randvere tee. For geographical context, it is therefore important to note that Tädu is not limited to Randvere: Tammneeme and Leppneeme are also along its route.

A new, 2.5-metre-wide paved footpath and cycle path makes getting around easier for residents of Randvere, Äigrumäe, Metsakasti and Muuga. Two new bus stops with compliant bus bays were established during construction of the Muuga footpath and cycle path. Local route highlights therefore range from a health trail that crosses several areas to specific details about the surface, width and bus stops.

Bathing Area and Coastal Scenery

Randvere rand is a registered bathing area on Kirikaia tee in Randvere village, on Muuga Bay. Seasonal access and water conditions may vary; check both before planning a swim. The coastal area near Randvere Peetri Church offers a different perspective: it is partly covered with reeds, and a coastal path runs through it. The two coastal locations have different focal points: one is a bathing spot, while the other is a reed-lined coastal landscape with a path. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to prioritise swimming or a walk along the shore.
